I tend to browse through guitar stores with a feeling of boredom these days, save for a recent purchase I've discussed elsewhere. I've owned some pretty interesting gear which has come and gone. I have four other guitars, each unique in its own right. I'd have to say that my '89 Pewter Clapton would likely fit into holy grail category. I have a definite preference for that neck carve, the Lace Sensors, and the fact that it stood at the head of the line in its day, it's concept still going strong. The one I wish I hadn't let go was a '93 Tele Plus. It it had a natural finish body and a maple neck. I don't love Tele's but this one should have been a keeper. I swapped it out for a '97 black Clapton which also went the way of all guitars.

I've said before, but will say again, if I ever won the lottery - the one guitar I would seek out and pay ridiculous amounts of money for would be Kurt Cobain's Jaguar.
but as far as guitars that I always look at when I see them and wish that maybe someday I'll have the money to get one.. it'd be an early 60s Jag in candy apple red (with matching headstock) , or an ELITE strat with the push buttons. very cool guitars... I know where 2 jaguars matching this description are here in nashville, both for just a couple grand. I've never even seen an elite in real life though. anyone have one?

I'll see if I can get a photo of the Strat for you LAC. A bro of mie has a lefty in black, very cool guitar, I cleaned it up and changed the strings for him last year, the push buttons send it into the stratosphere (pun intended  )

JJ Cale donated an Elite Strat to Eric Clapton's auction in 2010. Saw it up close and personal at the previews. They could be considered the proto-EC signature guitar in that they were Fender's initial exploration into active electronics. Major issues with those free flyte trems though. I could never get totally excited about them. I've stated a preference for my '89 Clapton. In thinking about that line of guitars, perhaps one of the real early birds which had a mini-toggle to control the preamp, or a Custom Shop 35th Anniversary Stratocaster which was basically a Strat Plus with active electronics and a really nice piece of wood for a body.

Browse that website. There's some fascinating gear in there, including a couple of links to the Elites.

My guitar Holy Grail would be an original Broadcaster, but I would need a lottery win to get it.
Subsequently, when the Custom Shop Ltd Ed Broadcaster appeared in 2010, I jumped on one of those!

Now that is a beautiful Telecaster. Can't beat those early simple design classics.

Ever since I saw Stuart Adamson playing a Sienna Sunburst Stratocaster in the 1980s I knew I had to have one. Only took me 20 years but this is the one I ended up with, ash body, rosewood fingerboard, a neck that's stable and solid, sounds devastatingly good.

My friend's pop has a Siennaburst Telecaster. Nicest Tele I've ever seen! Up close, the finish looks like candy of some kind.

Mine would be a Gibson Custom Shop 1960 reissue es-335, but with all maple body and neck with a ebony fingerboard, with a vartitone switch. Now that, would sound cool! :D Maybe even in a natural finish. The closest guitar to my description that i can think of would be a BB king lucille.

A Vantage Quest is on my list of guitars I want to own some day.

It's an early 80s Makomatsu made travel guitar.

Tiny double cut body, setneck I believe, and Gibson scale.
