Well, that's all I got.

I couldn't remember the name of the company who manufactured that guitar, guessing it was a Guild(so I went to ebay hunting for a similar guitar). I knew it wasn't 70's made in Japan because of the quality body wood under the white. Great guitars. I have seen MIJ copies, which are probably decent.

1979 Guild S-70

1 of less than 250 ever made/on record.

A rep for Guild confirmed that it's USA made and it's one of the earliest ones made. (If I remember correctly, I was told April of 79. They were made until 81)

It's a custom color, which were options, but not displayed in catalogs.

It has 3 single coil Dimarzio pickups, a blender, and what my local tech assumes to be a treble bleeder. (still haven't paid the $50 to have it repaired.)

It's an absolutely amazing guitar. Perfect in terms of everything, even with the frets as low as they are. (there goes another $250, $350 for stainless  ) it just sounds perfect, and plays like no other. I haven't touched my Telecaster in about a month because of this thing. :(

It's also an uncommon instrument that one could find a cool tone with. A little Guild, some Fender,...and some Mosrite maybe. I dig it.

I bought it from the kid I saw lugging it around cause I thought it was a hacked up Mosrite MK II from a distance lol.

$100, give or take, in parts to the guy for the best guitar I've ever played.

My Holy Grail guitars that I always longed for are the '54 Strat,'63-'64 Gibson Firebird VII,'61 SG bodied 3 pup Les Paul Custom, any 50s or 60s Rickenbacker 325 model,a pre 1965 Rick 360/12.

I do own a few guitars that could be called Holy Grail guitars in the meantime: a '62 Hagstrom Corvette(that cost $850 US in 1962) a '65 Hagstrom II, a circa '65 Vox Phantom XII with the vibrato,a circa 1965 Vox MK VI Acoustic teardrop,a circa 1966 Vox Astro IV model V-273 Bass with bass/treble boost, fuzz and a G-tuner(Tom Petty was once asked in an interview what his Holy Grail guitar was and he named the Astro IV Vox Bass),a 1965 Strat,`65 Mustang,`65 Jaguar,1974 Guild S-100 NB which is SG shaped but has pickups that would blow any SG or Les Paul out of the water.Bernado Rico used the same pickups for the first BC Rich guitars before getting DiMarzio aboard as a supplier.

Back in the mid 70s I had a chance to acquire both the Firebird VII and the '61 Les Paul Custom for $400 and $450 respectively but didn't have the forethought or presence of mind to take out a loan to get them-yes I still kick myself daily for passing them by.

Gibson Firebird--both the reverse and non-reverse bodied models, preferably non-term models.

A vintage-styled hard tail Fender Stratocaster, with rosewood fretboard and a custom color.

Vox "teardrop" model, a la Brian Jones.

Fender Strat XII.

A Reverend Ron Ashton model Flying V w/three P-90's.

Another more "standard" Reverend w/P-90's.

Telecaster Thinline--one of the earliest models/styles.

Another Thinline Tele w/humbuckers, like Tab Benoit uses.

I always thought Guilds were Gibson-ish..but were/are made with better wood and hardware, and were simpler in design.

I'd really love to have any original Blackguard Telecaster. More for the historical and nostalgic significance than anything. However, I wouldn't love to have it enough to fork over the dough that those old guitars command. :P

Cheers,

I have another hopefully upcoming "Grail"...I'd like to see a high-end U.S. version of the Dean Edge 6(35' scale length). I'd want it with the old style v-cut headstock, real EMG's...,alder body. The Edge is a great design that hasn't had the right resources and assembly applied to it.

Just remembered this, a real oddball that crops up on ebay from time to time, the Casio MG510 MIDI controller guitar from the late 1990s.

Made in the Fujigen plant that produced the MIJ Fender and Squiers of the time and a truly exceptional piece of late 20th century music technology. This was the go-to guitar in the studio where I did most of my work in the 90s, the MIDI section let me program Cubase (running from two floppy disks on an Atari 1040) and the pickups were more than good enough to get some nice overdrive tones through an amp. An overlooked classic.

As mentioned, I too already own mine.

But, if I had to give an answer, it'd be one of the 4 '54 Stratocasters stolen from Buddy Holly.

That one would end up spending Eternity nestled between me and the Satin lining of the Box !

cheers!

I was joking about that rather creepy one I posted previously, but I wouldn't mind this very one being held here: Image
I've often wondered what became of it, since it never gets much mention, compared to his other guitars.

That is more like it. HOLY GRAIL to me implies there is ONE and only ONE.

It is no secret I want to find THE FUNK MACHINE. There's only ONE of those.
