Wow, this took me by surprise last night. I found out on my local news that Tim Tebow is going to be signing with my favorite team, the New England Patriots today. At first I thought, are they nuts, then it kicked in , they are doing the smart thing by doing this. Here's why , Tom Brady has been a pro for 14 seasons now and probably has a couple more left in him before he calls it a day. Now we all now that Tebow isn't the best QB around but, if anyone can turn him into a top notch QB that'll replace Brady for when he does retire, it'll be Bill Belechik along with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel ,who drafted Tebow when he was in Denver. Makes sense to me.

is there a reason why tebow has had such a tough time? it seems like a lot of average quarterbacks are still around, and he's not getting a chance to prove himself on a regular basis.

i don't follow him closely, but i hope he can find success soon. seems like a stand-up guy-no run-ins with the law.

i guess we'll find out more as the season gets under way

I like Tebow to be honest here. He's a great role model in a age of egotistical, greedy, overpaid athletes who are only concerned about themselves . Pat's owner Robert Kraft did the right thing by signing him IMO. Over in New England, he'll get the chance to prove himself.

Tim Tebow deserves a chance. I'm a Saints guy,but I'll be pulling for the Pats when they're not playing my team. Bill Belichik has been around and knows more football than probably any coach in the league. He'll give the guy a chance to learn the pro game. They have probably the best QB in the last 10 years starting. Yeah, Tebow will learn lots of the pro game up there.

I dislike the New England coach (I refuse to write his name) immensely--a cheating, profane egoist of the highest order. If he hadn't had the Superbowl rings under his belt, he would have been suspended, fined or fired by the league because of the cheating scandals*.

I'm also not a Patriots "fan" per se...I rarely root for them.

However, as a fan of the game, I love to watch them play...Brady, Welker (now departed from the team) and company are amazing.

*Yes, I know other teams/coaches cheat, but this dude got caught and it can be proven.

Perhaps they should take every coach and player who has cheated including using HGHs and ban them from sports.
Maybe not...

How could Tebow even consider playing for such a coach.

I think you miss my point--I'm not so naive as to think that people (even coaches, players and teams I like) don't/won't cheat; however, if the coach for the Kansas City Chiefs (a traditionally poor-performing NFL team for our friends not familiar with American Football) was caught cheating, he would have been drummed out of the league.

But the NE Pats' coach got a free pass because he's been winning (and winning big) for over a decade. If the NFL had pressed the issue, it would have brought into question at least some of the wins, and that's a can of worms they didn't want to open.

Would they still have won a lot of games? Probably.
The level of talent and their intelligence of letting an aging "good" player go while replacing him with another player that is as good or better--brilliant!
Their talent evaluation/recruiting ability is without equal as well. (As a fan of the Dallas Cowbags, erm, Cowboys and a NON-FAN of the Cowbags owner/general manager, this ability of the Pats is especially vexing and frustrating).
But overall, they cheated and that is wrong, period.

Probably because he didn't have many other offers, and he's going to be on one of the best teams in the league...and if anybody can make him into a league-worthy player, it's the Pats' offensive coaching staff.

PS--As far as the PEDs, HGH, Steroids, etc., a three-season ban should be enough of a deterrent...what player in his right mind would give up three seasons in a job that has a short shelf life, just to get a slight (and I do mean slight) advantage?
It would help weed out the knuckleheads--because only a knucklehead would take such a chance!

...and it's ridiculous that they think that PEDs (of all sorts) are an actual advantage (especially long-term). Hank Aaron did what he did without such things, yet it took a guy who destroyed his body & reputation to finally break his record, several decades later...likewise with Roger Maris' record and the ginger giant who broke it.

I hope neither of those morons (and all the other PED users) ever get into the Hall of Fame, because they cheated just as much as the Chicago White Sox in 1919 and Pete Rose with his gambling...and their records should have a bright red flashing asterisk beside them.

I get a little passionate about this, as you can tell.[/rant]

I am a hardcore Patriots fan and have been since the days of Steve Grogan. Tebow is lucky that the Patriots took a gamble on him when no other team in the league wanted anything to do with him after that fiasco with the Jets. Now that he's in New England, he's going to find out that the Tebow media show is a thing of the past because in New England, it's all about the Patriot way and not about the individual . Bellichick even mentioned on tonight's local news that he would find some use for him, meaning that he could probably place him at a back position ,which some have suggested he play at .

New England as a region just creates these curses for themselves.

As a Pats fan I'm less than thrilled. You know your career as a qb is over when you're signed into a team that has an elite qb LOL! It's bench time unless they use him as a fullback or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bellichick decides to go that route with him. Tebow's big and can run and scramble. That's his biggest strength and IMO, I think he would adapt very well as a fullback.

Isn't Gronkowski out (surgery) and Hernandez isn't always 100% so who knows?
