hello old friends. been a while. got sick of the spam and useless arguments. i might be back, depending on how this dip back in the pool goes...
okay, i have ableton live lite 7, the version that came with the line 6 pod gx. not the greatest recording stuff, i know, but it's what i've got for now....
here's the problem i'm having - it was simple enough to use when i first got it, back when i had just gotten back into guitar and didn't have a lot of toys to play with. i used all the onboard pod farm stuff to record things, didn't mind letting my one or two pedals sit aside as i used their digital counterparts... but now that i have my board almost complete once again, i'd really like to record with my physical pedals. i'm running the chain like so :
guitar-tuner-distortions-boss harmonist- pod gx-into my amp for playback

so, the big muff and ds-1 come right through with just a little added fuzz , the tuner of course works, but the harmonist does almost nothing. the s bend works but sounds like it's wrapped in blankets....all the other pitch shifters, detuners, etc do nothing. anyone have any idea why?

what's the... correct way to record with your pedals? do i need something i dont have? thanks.

It sounds to me like you've got it right. Might be a signal level issue.
Have you tried running through your amp and micing the amp?

Can you post a recording maybe on Soundcloud so we can get a better idea of the problem?

ohhhh...... i am a moron sometimes. i've been sitting here messing with every possible thing, finally realized i had the cable connected to output B on the harmonist...which is the secondary output for your CLEAN signal. d'oh. put it in mono and now it seems to work. sorry.

+1.

This kind of system, the Analog-to-Digital converter, input impedance and inadequate monitoring limit recording possibilities.

Best to capture the takes by getting the fx and amp to sound natural and energetic in their own right, then place a mic.
The system is friendly to an incoming microphone voltage.
These inputs, they don´t like 1/4 inch plug stage gain.

Haha, no worries. I spent half an hour last week wondering why my power amp wasn't working until I noticed I had the standby switches on.

Yeah man thanks for sharing, it´s worth a whole thread, how we fumble around.
Sharing these stories is fun. :D
Let us know if you like going straight to the board better than micing.

One thing I can share about patching, this great engineer once told me,
-Always think, origin, destination-

Signals go into inputs and come out of outputs. Although the schematic that comes with Fender CS54 pickups calls a Strat's output jack an input jack.

thanks... was half expecting a bunch of people to agree in a slightly condescending way that i was, in fact, a moron. lol.
my preference would be to mic everything and have decent software. but my 20 dollar wal-mart microphone doesn't make anything sound decent. at all. i've been looking at mics for a couple of years, the one i want will set me back a litle over 100 dollars, which isn't too bad i guess, but i've yet to be in a position to justify that purchase. someday... someday.

and frank, that input/output thing could start a whole new thread "fender fails" :)

Glad you got it sorted out.

Hi Frank! Loved your tunes on soundcloud! 8)
Let the fun begin!
"Plug in the Output patch into the direct input and route to send 1 output and patch to comp input labelled -all out-, it´s hardwired to send 1 out, so go in to this output and patch physically to return 1 and choose plugin reverb from menu, input source "audio".

Roland and Yamaha manuals I am especially scared of.

thanks, Frank. I downloaded it. I'll try to play around with it when I get home from work. :) Is this what you use?
