Okay, so some of you may have seen this song on thee same gatorade commercial I
found it on. I looked up the full song and it blew my mind when I saw it was released in 2012, by an 18 year old!

The song is Lightning Bolt by Jake Bugg. I'm using my phone so I can't post a link but search on youtube and it's easy to find.

This just shows that there is still great music being made, you just have to find it. Will definitely look for more music by this guy. Enjoy!

been around for a year or so in the Uk now, supported some very big artists aswell. I really, really wanted to get into his music, but unfortunately the first track of his I heard, which blew my mind, wasn't how the album panned out or any subsequent releases, so I totally lost interest.

Thanls for posting the vid, Klowenst.

And Moochy, I'll still try to check em out, but that's disappointing. The same thing happened to me when I found a song I really liked by Alexi Murdoch, another Brit artist, but his other songs weren't nearly as good.

Dylan meets cash.

I wish some older amps restored as quickly as your faith in modern music.
Modern music is not individual talent but the industry gatekeepers. I have lots of faith in the industry..........that it is owned and led by talentless, greedy POS's. The artists have never gone away. They tend to think independently and that makes them very dangerous and unwanted.

Bugg's is my album of the year.

I hear everyone comparing him to dylan, but I don't hear too much of that myself. His voice is Donovan meets the Everly Brothers. Some of his acoustic work can sound Dylan influenced.

Picked up a guitar for the first time at 12. First hit at 17. And not an X factor judge in sight. There is hope.

What people don't realise, particually old folks, is that while the current state of pop music does suck, that's not the only music out there. They keep on relying on music from previous decades, only bothering to listen to what the radio nowadays has to offer. If you actually bother to go beyond what the radio has to offer, you'd find that there is some absolute kickass music out there, that's being produced, right now, that's as f*cking awesome as it was in previous decades, perhaps awesomer.

Perhaps not a universally appreciated example...?

But I think you're quite right. I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio. I've always found music I like, has lead me onto to other music I like, or even other stuff as part of that casual searching.

Radio is reflective of what the various talent shows are showcasing, that is, everything 'top 20' for the last 30 years or so. Media and music has become its own circular machine of oldies and modern pop crap.

There is plenty of real music out there, from any genre, but there's less stuff that's felt to be 'radio friendly' these days. Radio is also just another advertising vehicle, so they all play it safe, pandering to the demographic they want their advertisers to pay to reach.

In Australia, you won't find a single "DJ" on commercial radio, they're all spinning playlists drawn up by the execs. I imagine it's the same anywhere else.

You're right, that wasn't a good example. I knew it wouldn't be, but it shows the variety of music that is/still is being produced today.
Perhaps this might be a more universally acceptable song. One of the most beatifully composed songs, ever;

Two hits and you all are calling him Bob Dylan! .... :? .... The Everly Brother's ! :? Donovan! :| Johnny Cash! Think of a more recent comparison such as to Liam Gallagher formerly of Oasis and now Beady Eye. Just goes to show how Rolling Stone Mag and other media outlets can manipulate one's perceptions of reality.
