Mine was purchased online used. Be aware of what you're buying though, sometimes the translations can be a real nightmare to figure out. Not to mention inaccurate descriptions and shoddy pictures.

This guy is great to deal with....http://www.tokyoguitarsafari.com/

Sorry to push this thread up. Google brought me here.

I was checking the status of an order I did a few days back on a canadian online retailer and came across a special run (FSR) of Stratocaster from Japan.

Price is decent but what struck me is that the guitar is what I've been looking for. Vintage white, maple neck/fretboard, big headstock, vintage trem, 21 frets. I want a YJM clone without spending too much and the scalloped neck.

So, does anyone got any more infos on those MIJ 2013 FSR? How is the hardware and electronics?

Does these have specs similar to a MIA or more like a MIM?

Any help or comments welcomed.

Pics would be a big help -- do you have a link to this guitar?

I have a MIM Standard Strat with upgraded pickups. Fantastic guitar.

I can verify the quality of Blinker's MIJ Strats, they are incredible in fit and finish and tone. I love the sound of them as is but Blinkers prefers more punch and ballsy tone from the bridge pup than most Standard Strats have in their stock pickups.A couple of more good sites for MIJ Strats are http://www.guitarsjapan.com and this one which also sells pristine vintage Strats. http://www.hi-guitars.com

I've had many a guitar come through my hands in the last 5 years and not one single one of them is as good as my current Fender Dimarzio Collection strat. I find it pert near perfect for me....well except for the factory bridge pup. That's been resolved now though :D

I feel like by reviving that thread I made it go in all directions... Anyway...

Thanks everyone but... Resistance was futile! I ordered my MIJ FSR Stat 72 in vintage white. Store I got it from had only 2 left. As it's a limited run, I had to took the plunge if I wanted one. If anyone interested, let me know, I'll try to make a quick review.

Dazed and confused   :?: :?: I'd go with the MIM Standard Stratocaster and leave the rest of this stuff to when you get hungry again..and more familiar with the Fender lines..'cuz you will.

Dazed and confused? You are ??? I'm not!!!

I've been wanting a vintage white Strat since I first saw one on YJM's Rising Force record cover in 1984.

A signature model is over my budget and I've never bounded with scalloped necks anyway.

I thought getting one of those Squier Vintage 70s Strat, there is one in Vintage white, but the price of modding the thing was, IMO, too much to put into a cheap guitar.

I've been following the local ads for months for good deals and these days, people are on crack.

I also thought going Warmoth and building one. Again, too much dough for a Partcaster that won't have the Fender logo.

Then, while I was checking the status of the order of my son's new bass on a online retailer, I saw this limited run of MIJ Strats on their web site:

Image

There's no MIM strat with those specs: with a big headstock and that color.

I haven't found much infos about that special. Did some googling, ended on 2 Strat forums having topics about MIM vs MIJ vs MIA... Felt like I revived threads just to send them in all directions...

Anyway, this morning I called the online dealer (to check my son's order again!!!) and talked with the guy there about that limited series of Strat. They had 2 left and then would have been gone, so like I said, I took the plunge!

whoa, I wrote a book! I'll keep you posted.

Nor I, for that matter. However, I've been dealing with these mates of ours for over six years now and the tend to go a bit over the top and stumbling all over themselves in their sincere and earnest desire to be of help. In my old racket it's the equivalent of asking a question about your child's losing its first baby tooth and you wind up with step by step instructions as to how to perform a jaw resection. Anyway, I digress. It's a plus that you pulled the trigger on that guitar, letting common sense guide you. I recently did the same with a limited reissue MIJ Bass VI which had been on my bucket list. That, and your guitar as well, may have bee part of a clutch of LTD's that Fender Japan was struck by lightning to produce. In any event, I trust that we've both been dealt a royal flush. Keep us posted.

Doc

As with any kind of instrument, device, or machine, there are cherries and there are lemons no matter where they're made.

I have an American-made Stratocaster, an hecho-en-Mexico Telecaster and two 1980's Fender acoustics (F250 and F270CE) that were made in Korea, and all of them are excellent instruments--regardless of where they were made.

...and the Tele is my go-to guitar for recording, jams and performing.

Don't get hung up on the origin of the instrument--play everything you can get your hands on, and choose the one within your budget that suits you best.

+1 on that!!!
I had a Squier Strat that I sold to get $ toward my MIM Strat. I wish I'd never sold the Squier... the neck PU on that guitar had a niiiice, faaaatttt, chunky tone! LOVE my Fender Strat, but I wish I still had that Squier.
Point being: if you're going to spend the money, you absolutely have to play the guitar. It has to feel right as well as sound right... AND, anotheR +1 on the "used" Fender market. You'll save some cash, and just might wind up with a better guitar than if you bought a brand new one of lesser quality. JUST MAKE SURE YOU PLAY IT FIRST!

It is too bad Fender doesn't bring in more Japanese guitars into the USA market.

I have had luck dealing directly with the Japanese store Ishibashi.
