I was in my usual music store yesterday-Reid Music in Mt. Pearl, NL,Canada and the manager asked me to try out a pedal that had recently arrived, the BBE Sonic Stomp. He passed me the pedal and we went into the "great guitar room" where they keep their top shelf models and I tried it out with a beautiful new Select Series Strat in the new 'burst colour that I love-I forget the name of it but it's an orange hue-and tried it out through a new Super Champ-gtreat little amp-and while I was going through the chords of Spanish Castle Magic he engaged the pedal and I almost went through the wall!!! The difference that this pedal made in the tone and presence of the guitar was stunning. He asked me what words I would use to describe it and I told him that it was like a cross between a Tone Cut/Top Boost of a Vox and the Presence control on a Marshall but with both of them on steroids anyway he like my description and said that that described it to a T.The pedal only costs $100 and it's well worth it-,I had never heard of it before but I'm picking it up tomorrow because the Missus is giving it to me for Father's Day-now if my darling daughters give me one of the great little Vox Stomplab multi-effects pedals it would be a fabulous Dad's day.

Thanks SBLS-it's not often that I get that overwound about a bit of gear but that little pedal makes such a rich and profound difference in the tone and for just $100-it's just over the top-they could charge 3 times that and still sell them -don't tell them that though...lol.

Blinkers I'll have beer in the fridge-since it's Friday,I know that tea isn't on your list of potables hee hee hee.

Ha, that's an interesting recommendation. I'll be sure to check that one out - thanks for the headsup.

I run a Sonic Stomp through the effects loop of my Vox. Though it's not really intended as an effects pedal per se`. The recommended settings don't make a shocking difference. Someone will correct me I'm sure, but I think it's intended to rectify a known weakness that every amp has concerning the timing of a signal hitting a speaker and when it exits as sound. Once set, I never touch the knobs. It does give a bit of clarity and presence to the output, but again if the knobs are around the middle recommended settings, it's not a huge difference. At least not on my Vox.

I'd like to know how it differs from this thing I'm using:

I'd gladly change to the pedal version if it put my amps
in the holy grail zone like the rack deal does.

Miami Mike, I remember people using those a lot in the 90's and I was wondering where they all went. Particularly my 'metalhead' friends liked those, it definitely makes a huge difference. I've also heard of them being used for vocals with good results. Yep I'm definitely interested if they have a stomp box version.

Edit:

"Many musicians don't have a spot for the rack mount unit, but long for the legendary clarity, definition and punch that only a Sonic Maximizer can provide. BBE took heed and carefully designed the Sonic Stomp foot pedal which delivers the same amazing sonic improvement as our popular 482i Sonic Maximizer. "

Mike; the pedal has the same two controls but only one input / output. So for a gigging guy with two amps, the rack mount would be a deal. I doubt there's any difference sound wise, but I'm only guessing.

My experience and understanding exactly! Mine is in the box sitting on a shelf where it has resided for well over a year now.

I had a chance to give the Sonic Stomp a real good work out today with my 50th Ann. Strat and my Vox AC-15 C1.First I plugged the Strat into the amp and set it up for the full and lush tone that I almost always have it set on.I set the controls of the Sonic Stomp at around 3 o'clock and when I engaged it the difference in tone was profound to say the least. With the pedal engaged, what I had already felt was a great Vox/Strat tone became so much fuller and with way way more presence than I ever got from any of my Marshalls or any others that I have tried.

I went on the store's Facebook site and other guitarists were singing their praises of the Sonic Stomp and the sales guy who I have known for years told me that a lot of the local recording facilities are using them for everything that you can imagine. He also said that people are enhancing the downloads to their i-pods etc. by using the Sonic Stomp to fatten up the tinny sound that they are notorious for.I can't wait to use it with my old Vox Phantom XII tomorrow, that should really be incredible since it already sounds like a Strat crossbred with a harpsichord.

I got the 382i as a STOTD special for $49 several years ago.
It's very hard to describe what it does.

When you take any signal and feed it to a normal signal chain--a preamp, EQ, Amp, etc.--and out through a speaker, it's going to lose quality. It's one of the great negatives of amplified music : any signal fed to a speaker will lose quality due to problems that all speakers have with phase and accurate amplitude reproduction.

This causes fundamentals and harmonics to be out of order or even reversed, making the sound muddy. Certain frequencies may be overemphasized because of phase problems making the sound inaccurate and just plain bad.

This BBE unit's circuitry puts the clarity back in your signal by correcting those problems. The circuitry gives the speaker a signal that it likes, one that it can re-produce more efficiently and with clarity and loudness. It makes the waveform that the speaker reproduces closer to the natural, unamplified musical signal.
