personally I use guitar tablature, or tab. but then I cant read music. tab is freely available for pretty much everything you could ever wish for, from hit songs to classic music arranged for guitar to them tunes from tv shows. its a more graphical representation of the guitar, using 6 lines and numbers to tell you which finger goes where and how many times you play each note.

just do a search for a song you like in google. for example "cream white room guitar tab" will bring you up links to a load of tabs for the wah pedal orgasm that is White Room 8) .

If your gonna just have one, go ahead and get a good American Standard Strat. Don't buy it through the mail order. Go to several stores and try them out. Don't just buy the first one you pick up because eventualy there will be one that just feels right.

Just my opinion.

I think I would give up on the Mustang1 first--it's a toy. A nice toy, a useful toy, but a toy nonetheless.

Upgrade your amp, upgrade your life. A Fender Frontman 25R or 65R would be a much more useful tool in the long run, and it's price point isn't much more than the Mustang1.

But this is just my humble opinion, so please don't take offense.

Depends what mellow means to you, but a good place to start is select a preset, turn off all the FX and modulation, then tweaking EQ to taste. I like to add a little trem to fill the sound. The Bassman or Vox (Brit 60s) models work best for me to get a fat, warm sound.

I agree on trying different neck profiles, radius, scale lengths.

It's really the only way to choose what's best for *you*.

http://youtu.be/yxbq-mKT6YM Enjoy your new gear, straight out of the box the Mustang 1 is ready to go. Before you get too down on the Fuse software, just leave it alone for now. Try the 3 different ranges and play around with the tone and volume settings on the amp and guitar, and try different pick-up settings too. Small steps, but worth the effort. Once you've found a few settings that work for you take out the Fuse software and have at it.

Cheers,
John.E

1 - Regarding posting pics, you need to sign-up on a free photo site such as Photobucket.com. It's simple. From that, after you upload pics to the site, click on the picture to post on this site, and from the list of links on the right, choose IMG. You then can Paste that link to a post on this site. Yeah, of you never have done it, seems like a lot of effort, but it is simple, and you share photo's here.
3- I have a few Fender amps, two older tube types (62 Concert and 67 Bandmaster), both of which provide the natural sound of the strat, and a Frontman 25R, which is a nice little amp that has a decent sound. I have played with a Mustang II and agree, getting familiar with it's settings to get the sound I get from my tube amps, takes some time to figure out. Dont give up or ?? maybe see if you can make an exchanged for an amp without the modeling features. But, if you can, play through what ever amp you might think of with your guitar before making a decision.

Good luck.....

To be fair, Justin's review is very good, but look how he approaches it; he's a very accomplished player. He's listening to each factory preset, and then playing something he thinks is going to showcase that as well as possible.

How many people are able to do that as easily? I know I bypassed the Mustang when I started out, as I couldn't find anything that sounded good as a beginner. When I came back to it and turned off all the gizmos, I was able find which cleans were good, and the toys would add versatility as I got used to using them, and the amp itself.
