Hello gang. Anyone know if there is a difference between the tremolo springs used on a Strat and the ones used on a Squire? Thanks!

I've mixed springs from Fender, Squier, Wilkinson and various other trems and never had any issues.

The only problem you could get is if one spring is at very low tension compared to the others, you may find it works loose when you pull back on the trem. Won't cause any damage though.

Mixing springs of different tension, or age, can cause tuning issues. Buying new is not going to break anyone's bank. Replace all at the same time to insure the best tuning stability.

There are loads of different tensions and even lengths sold as 'Strat' springs. Each will give your trem a slightly different feel, and as noted above, some don't play well together, so I generally replace all at the same time from the same place. Be prepared to give the trem a little adjustment as required, particularly if it's set to float at all.

Weirdly, the best feeling springs I ever had (and indeed still have!) in a Strat came out of an Ibanez.

There's lots of debate about this, with long discussions about "Hooke's Law" and all that, but I think I've figured out that the more springs that are closed up more will create a stiffer bar action than less springs that are stretched out, even though the overall tension adds up the same.

It seems to be about the percentage change in length equaling a percentage change in tension, so the longer, stretched out springs undergo less change in tension when moved a given distance.

Hello gang, and thank you all for your information. I just picked up an Indonesian made Squire that is missing the tremolo springs. In pricing the springs, the Stratocaster Springs were cheaper than the Squire springs. I was just curious as to why. From what info that this forum and it's members have provided, I am thinking it may just be the vendors. I am a newbie, and have only been playing for 6 months, so you guys are champs for helping me out! Thank you again everyone! :D
