What amp are you plugged into??? Are you sure your electricity is okay? Check your circuit with one of those outlet testers available from yourl local home hardware store.

C.F. My Hot Rod Vintage 52' Tele(thin-skin nitro finish), i've only had for a month, I noticed this problem in the first week, this guitar is brand new, straight from factory, and has not had any modifications outside the factory. Now I purchased this guitar from a major canadian chain(L&M), I brought it to them about 2 weeks ago to have them set it up and repair the problem which they said they could do. I got the guitar back last week and they did a great job setting it up, and they seemed to cure the majority of the problem with static from the front of the body around the output jack however the back of the body became even worse after this repair. I brought it back and showed them the problem and then received a phone call the very next day saying they would be unable to repair this problem and that it was common to all teles and strats. Now they are willing to work with me, whether I decide to keep this guitar, exchange, or what. I was just curious if this was something I should expect with all other teles, you would think I could find another guitar in the $1600-$2000 price range that doesn't have these problems.

Don't send it anywhere...If you live in Missouri, preferrably in Stoddard County, take a visit to the Dexter Music Center...They're authorized by Gibson Musical Instruments, Marshall Amplification, Peavey Electronics and Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. And their service is REMARKABLE, they do all they can to help.

If you DON'T live near them then take it to someone who is like, super-experted at that stuff. :?

And one more thing...I've played Strats, even on crappy Crate amps with a cheap used Dunlop Wah Wah and I didn't have problems with static.

chris 63- I've changed the scenario several times, different amps and different locations, with same results

You probably could send it back and get a refund or a replacement.

I might be asking an incredibly stupid question here, but the way I read it, I could take the "static" problem two different ways.....

1.) you have a noise problem. the pick-ups hum when they're amplified. this is normal from single-coil pickups, which is why a lot of strats have the middle pickup reversed, which cancels the hum

2.) you have static-cling like static. this sounds like a faulty ground to me, maybe not in the guitar, or in the amp, but possibly in the circuits or even you. try playing the guitar without shoes, or with shoes, or with rubber soled shoes, try as many combinations as you can

Maybe if we're all on the same page as to what kind of "static" you have, we can figure it out together?

AL- It is not a constant hum,or 60 cycle that I'm referring to, if you rub your hand along the back the guitars body, there is crackling and popping sounds that directly corresponds to the motion of the friction. it can also be heard when your body(pant leg/shirt) rubs against the back of the guitar. Also I've tried this guitar in a few different locations , out of a few different amps, and by differnt people. With every scernario yielding the same problem, I will also mention I have never had these problems with my other guitars. However the other guitars use only humbucker pickups.

I've never had any of the aforementioned static problems with any Fender I've ever owned...
