Hello, I made a post last week regrading static problems with a Hot Rod vintage 52' tele, where I get static from the actual body of the guitar and not the pickguard. The retailer has tried fixing this problem however I was recently notified that they are unable to repair this and I was told that this problem is common to all strats and teles. I find this hard to believe, so i've created this poll to see how common this problem actually is, so if you have a static problem with your strat or tele please chime in.

thank you

I must have missed the original post. This is common, and believe it or not the easiest fix for this is to put a Bounce Static Dryer Sheet under the pickguard.

Thanks for the advice but...I do not get static from my pickguard, i get static mainly on the back of the guitars body, and the front near the output jack, the pickguard is one of the places which doesn't have static and i've tried the dryer sheet theory with no results. It seems that the static direct corresponds to where internal wiring would be( on the back of the body the static results from the output jack to the pickups)

I have an MIM Tele that doesn't
have any static problems... I
have heard of other folks having
static problems though...

What they did to remedy the
problem,,, was to line the cavities
with a thin sheet of copper...

A guitar tech may be able to help
you out...

Strats and Teles have singlecoil pickups if I'm not mistaken...My 1961 Gibson Melody Maker (which has only 1 awesome singlecoil) hums kinda bad. Same goes with my Jackson JS20 Dinky, which has 2 [crappy] singlecoils.

Then I have my Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennssean with two humbuckers as my Epiphone Les Paul standard, which hardly hum at all. (Note: I've never replaced the pickups.)

Is it not possible that the static is caused by the singlecoils rather than the hardware on the guitar? Sorry but it doesn't make much sense to me as to why the hardware would cause static output.

rocker gamma- the Hot Rod vintage 52' tele in question has a single coil bridge pickup, and a seymour duncan mini-humbucker in the neck. yes single coils do have a 60-cycle hum,but my problem is caused when any friction/touch/rubbing is applied to the body of the guitar, especially the back of the body and the static crackling also results when in the neck position which is a humbucker.

I'm not an expert or anything, but is it not a problem in which the pickups are wired? Or maybe its some faulty wires because I heard you say that you had it re-set up.

I am beginning to think it is a wiring/pickup issue myself.

Did you have this issue before the pickups were changed/rewired?

I'm told a capacitor aross your axe's output (hot and ground) should end your static problem; however what value to use is some thing you;ll have to research because my source doesn't know that part.
You seem sure it's not the dreaded single coil 60 cycle hum... so maybe you have strange body chemistry....
Have you tried grounding yourself like computer techs do? Go ask one at your local computer shop; give them the details of your problem too; they should know something about static as it's a big deal for computers and see if you still have the problem.

C.F. My Hot Rod Vintage 52' Tele(thin-skin nitro finish), i've only had for a month, I noticed this problem in the first week, this guitar is brand new, straight from factory, and has not had any modifications outside the factory. Now I purchased this guitar from a major canadian chain(L&M), I brought it to them about 2 weeks ago to have them set it up and repair the problem which they said they could do. I got the guitar back last week and they did a great job setting it up, and they seemed to cure the majority of the problem with static from the front of the body around the output jack however the back of the body became even worse after this repair. I brought it back and showed them the problem and then received a phone call the very next day saying they would be unable to repair this problem and that it was common to all teles and strats. Now they are willing to work with me, whether I decide to keep this guitar, exchange, or what. I was just curious if this was something I should expect with all other teles, you would think I could find another guitar in the $1600-$2000 price range that doesn't have these problems.

I have a tele (the one listed at the bottom of my posts) and it's VERY quiet.
I think your store is dodging the problem, I would go to the store with your tele in hand; play your and other teles with store personnel in tow and ask them where the noise is in them; (there prob won't be more than normal (again mine is as quiet as the grave) hand the axe back to them and find one that doesn't have the noise problem and take that one home You can call or write Fender with the problem and see what they have to say. Hold off on any mods till you get an answer; remember mods may void that warranty....

No, that crackle isn't from all Strats and Teles. Something else is going on. For years, I never heard a static crackle from my Squier. Then, after about 8 years of constant use, it started to get a loud crackle when warming up. I though maybe it was static, but concluded it's not - it's something else that snafu'd with the pots or wires or something. This first happened after the guitar got a little bit beat up somehow - not sure how - with a screw popping out of the bridge also. Before then, I never heard a crackle from it. My Highway One has never had any kind of crackle. It had the 60 cycle hum in the non-cancelling positions, but that's reduced with the CS TX Spc, especially with the tone rolled back.
