im sure i read somewhere that the paisley pattern on fender guitars, or at least the original pink paisley teles, is fabric lacquered over ?

if so, does anybody have any information on the process, or photos or anything ? ive been trawling ebay and some of the fabrics you can buy would look epic on a guitar.................

You are probably going to have to make your own "paper" as the "real stuff" has a high percentage of unobtanium in it.

Yep, you would just have to attach the fabric on the body (glue, perhaps?) and figure out how to put a thick layer of whatever-they-put-over-the-paisley-shelfpaper back in the 60's...most of the vintage ones have some pretty severe cracks in the finish, so it's obviously temp- and humidity-sensitive.

Your big hurdle is going to be the absorbancy of the fabric.

When I was a kid , I used to make flying model aircraft out of balsa wood kits and then stretch tissue paper over the frame and then cover it with "Dope" (I have no idea what was in it), but it was fairly slow drying and used to shrink the tissue tight over the balsa skeleton and when dry, the tissue became hard
Maybe if you enquired at a model shop as to what exactly it is made of and whether it would bond ok with nitro or poly , then you might be able to use it as a base to cover the paper/cloth , then laquer over it when dry and finish as normal (cut and buff, etc)
