I just bought a 5 pack of Fender 250 Strings last week from them for only 20 bucks. They have really good customer service . I wish they'd stop putting candy in my shipping packages though ,because I'm diabetic and can't have any of that junk.

MODWIZ I'd be very interested in hearing what you think about this amp! Also try it with a bass and let us know about that too! I'm kind of interested in using a ukulele in one also.

Will do. Might post it in a NAD thread I start. I am interested in how it works for bass too. I am sure the stock 15" will have to go. The Emi 1518 is undoubtedly a great upgrade speaker and would probably work decently with a bass guitar. However.....Weber has some 15" speakers that may do this amp some serious vintage guitar tone justice. I will have to get on a phone to those guys and see what they have to say. I hear great things about their customer service.

On my list are: The British Series ceramic Blue Dog. It has a 50 .oz magnet like the 1518. The Chicago Vintage 15A125-A. This speaker would probably suck for bass with its 11 .oz alnico magnet, but might be a real fit for the "vibe". Finally there is the Vintage Series 15F150. With a 40 .oz ceramic magnet, it might be a contender for good sound and bi-instrumentality.

These are all choices within a short upward price distance of the Emi 1518. There are some 15" Alnicos that might be astounding speakers, but their prices have made me put them off for another impulsive time.

Bass sounded like farty weak garbage. That was at more than bedroom volume. Given it was a 15" speaker, it is clearly made for guitar, mic or accordion. Guitar was honky tonk and big sounding, in a boxy way. Tremelo was disappointing. My Cool Cat sounds equal or better. New tubes should produce very different result. The old amps did start out with better tubes. Will update in a day or two. Final opinion not yet formed. Stock, it is "interesting".

I can see it as a great harp amp. The speaker cone is sort of dry and brittle. When tapped a very thin trebley note is produced. Sounds like some of my 8" speakers. My 10" Red Fang booms when you tap it. When Fender calls these a ''special'' design speaker, it's kind of like the Special Olympics sort of special.

Tung Sol 6v6's made a real difference. Putting a better 12ax7, or 5751, also made noticeable improvements. My v2 preamp socket (tremelo) has something wrong with it. When I put any other tube beside the stock Chinese one, it either drops significantly in volume (less then the 1 watt setting on my Bugera V5) with no tremelo, ot the volume stays unaffected, but the tremelo does not work. Tried 4 different tubes beside the stock and only the stock work. I'll keep fiddling, but this one may have to go back.

Looks like a Weber 15F 150 is the speaker for me in this amp. It is an iteration of a Jensen speaker that worked well for guitar and bass. The Jensen version was used in the Ampeg Rocket 15".
