This is all really fantastic advice. Thank you all so much.

I'll be honest, I'm not any good with technical items related to amps (electrical engineering would not be a career path for me). For the box that creates a headphone input - does that ruin the sound at all? Will it not work with some amps?

What are thoughts on Marshall combos?

It was specifically made for tube amps. Tube amps require a load such as a speaker cab or the tubes will burn up. The is why the webber tap has the dummy load, thus giving all the power somewhere to go.

Unfortunately, I have never used headphones that do not affect the sound. I currently use a pair of RCA IR wireless headphones. While they do indeed muddy up the tone, it is nice to go without the extra wire.

A cheap alternative you might want to consider are the Vox Amphones. These are headphones with amp circuitry built in. They plug directly into your guitar, nothing else needed...

As far as the solid state Marshall's go, I owned one and did not like it at all but that may just be me...

Stop caring about the neighbours.

It's always worked for me.

The Marshall Class 5, has a 1/4watt setting, needs a master volume but sounds better than anything else I've heard in that power range. Try it you may like it.

Ahhhhhh that makes sense! This may be a silt question, but how does it go about creating a dummy load? Does the unit get warm as a result? Does it hinder the ability to use effects? Thanks for teaching me all this. It's awesome.
