Looking for any advice (beyond benefit concerts, etc.) for assistance in equipment replacement for a local band who was playing in Vegas and all of their band equipment was stolen. Thank you!

Check the local craigslist for the missing gear.

Good luck, thieves suck!

You can say that again... i loaded up my car to drive some stuff to my MIL house. While i was inside, bastards broke into the car and hotwired the thing and drove off with the car and ...

Hot Rod Deville 4x10
Ovation Celebrity Acoustic
Classical Guitar
Miscellaneous pedals and what not.

Luckily i hadn't put my Strat in the car. I would have been really busted up about that because even though its not the greatest, its got a lot of sentimental value because i've customized it so much and really like the way it plays.

Hope you got serial numbers. Check CL and pawnshops. Best of luck.

Several music stores in Henderson seem less than legit when it comes to used gear. I'd check there as well as the pawn shops close to the strip.

Good luck going down the vigilante route, of hunting down the equipment by oneself, piece by piece, that is if you choose to do that. :|

That's a very good point, everyone should maintain a list.

Really sorry to hear you lost equipment that way, that's got to be the worst.

If you have all the serial Nos. of the gear,do off copies on them all and bring them around to all your local music stores and pawn shops as well as descriptions of each item-pix would really be ideal. If you are a member of a Musicians Union, get the word out to other members.Vintage Guitar Magazine offers free ad space for people who have gear stolen and since it's read by hundreds of dealers, pawnbrokers etc. a lot of people would know about your gear pretty soon.Good luck,I can't imagine how bad you must feel losing all your gear,I once had a cheap acoustic guitar stolen and I felt horrible about that so losing a pile of expensive gear must be incredibley devastating.

BTW: I have kept pix and lists with serial Nos. of all my gear for many years and the very first thing I do when I bring home a new bit of gear is take a pic. and record the serial No..

That habit is an absolute must if you want/need to file an insurance claim.

Really sorry about your gear. Posted this on my website a long time ago.

My actual profession is as an NCIC Terminal Agency Coordinator and part of my job is dealing with stolen article records. So I actually do know what I'm talking about here.

The other suggestions given here were excellent. Hope you find it all soon.

Sometimes stolen articles are traded almost immediately for drugs. The trader then holds the items for a year before pawning or selling them so the serials "time out" of NCIC Hotfiles entry. Everything times out of NCIC Hotfiles entry after 1 year plus month of entry EXCEPT guns, vehicles and missing/wanted persons which remain in NCIC hotfiles indefinitely. Around here law enforcement has found hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen articles at a time basically warehoused waiting for their NCIC entry time to be up. One local operation was warehousing everything in a neighboring county while stealing items in every county but the one where they were storing things. Everything from TV's to lawn mowers to air conditioners to video game consoles to music gear to power tools to Rolex watches to anything else you can name with a serial number on it. IPADS and IPHONES have been frequently stolen items lately in burglaries of area phone stores. At one store they got $30,000 worth of them and they are likely in storage somewhere. Most of the items were not entered stolen because the owners never recorded the serials. Finding your items yourself is a possibility but it might take a very long time. Then again other times crooks are stupid and actually sell the stuff on Craigslist or eBay almost immediately. Smarter ones won't do that though, at least not right away.

Some very famous instruments took decades to pop up, such as The Bass Of Doom stolen from Jaco Pastorius which took 26 years to reappear in a pawn shop in NYC. Others such as The Funk Machine stolen nearly 30 years ago from a dying James L. Jamerson have yet to be located. For at least 10 years that I know of, there has been a substantial no-questions-asked reward package for returning the Funk Machine which includes a substantial cash award plus a Fender Vintage Reissue P-Bass, but so far no takers.

My biggest fear. I don't have the most expensive gear, but just about every single purchase was a sacrifice. I'd hate for a damn thief scumbag just take it. I hate thieves, I really hope you find your stuff.
