Love to listen to it...

I have sang at a couple of gigs with a jazz band (early Nat King Cole and old Rat Pack tunes)...Lady Armadillo really liked that gig and showed her appreciation (I wore a suit*** the first gig and a tux the second time!), but I was only a fill-in, subbing for the (sick) regular...I just sang as smoothly as possible and kept the grit out...

...but I can't play jazz worth a crap, no matter how much I try. The closest I get is minor-key slow blues songs with some passing chords.

***It's strange that Lady Armadillo liked the suit so much, since I wear a suit at least four times a week at congregational functions...I think she was mentally transposing Harry Connick Jr.'s face onto my body.

Way cool SA! So you knew the words of the Nat King Cole songs and you stepped up just point blank?

Slowing things way down is being the only way for me, to even begin to understand
the "notes of attraction" as the chord chart unfolds, what actual tone resolves
best into the next chord, and which note of the coming triad form it is best to land on.

Very slow progress. At this rate I doubt I can ever sound decent attempting jazz.
But man, how I love to dial in a nice warm tone on the neck pickup and fake it!

Anyways, here´s this delightful and slow tune, very illustrative, out of one of
Metheny´s last records before he re-vamped everything and got so complex that
I lost interest.

A part of my musically schizophrenic upbringing was the fact that my mom's two favorite singers were Nat King Cole and Ernest Tubb... Try to wrap your head around that!

...also, we had rehearsed and I had some cheater sheets for some of the Rat Pack tunes...
