I just finished a 5/10 watt hybrid amp kit that sounds really good. It will put out 5 watt into 8 ohms or 10 watts with a 4 ohm load. It uses a LM1875 IC in the power section and a tiny Jan 4148 mil spec tube for the preamp. It comes from www.oatleyelectronics.com
It's called the K281 tube and IC power amplifier kit. I built it in about a half hour and it comes with a power supply. I'm going to use it with my cigar box guitars as a porch weasel.
It worked great with all my guitars and pedals. It's a real simple build.

Sounds cool.

Is the sound somewhat like a 5e3 at all?

Damn that's pretty cool you built your own amp. Any sound clips?

I guess the only similarity is that they both are guitar amps The 5 e 3 is a quality amp , very in a league of it's own . That will be difficult to match for $30 . The 5e3 is also a pure tube amp. And usually an effect 13 -18 w

Nothing like a5e3 at all. I actually built a few different amps. A 5e3 clone from Tube Depot, a Mod Kit DIY Mod 102 five watt EL84 driven amp and a couple of small solid state amps.
The K281 only runs on 24 volts.

The K281 is pretty clean but not brittle at all and has some nice bottom end. It's just a fun little kit that reall surprised me. I ran it through my two Egnater 112 cabs to get 8 ohms. It's actuall kind of funny and surprisingly pretty loud. Sound better than those little 15 watt Squire amps

I don't do sound clips. They never do any justice to what gear really sounds like. Plus, I record with other people and I don't own recording gear. Sorry, I'm a Geezer.
