A quick thanks to all of the current and former members of the U.S. military here among us this Memorial Day weekend for their service.

We are indebted to you for your hard work and sacrifice in protecting our nation and the freedoms we enjoy. Thank you again for all that you do in service to our nation.

Thanks for remembering. And to all my fellow veterans out there this weekend who may still be in harms way, stay safe and a big hand salute to you.

Today's Rememberance is NOT about those who served... though between Clinton and Obama (neither of whom served), I can see why you'd get that misconception ! In their annual speeches on Memorial Day, they erroneously saluted all Veterans while overlooking specifically those who died. Seems their knowledge of American History is a little lacking... ironic for a President.

Originally known as Decoration Day, to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. This day was later renamed and set aside by our Congress to honor those Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their Country - they died in Battle !

The day the Nation set aside to honor all who served is November 11 - Veterans Day.

I served... voluntarily (as opposed to being conscripted), and I faced hostile fire on many occasions.

But, I am very sensitive to reserve this day solely for my fellow veterans, both men and women, who gave their lives for us and their Country !

They truly deserve their own day and rememberance !

LCDR, U.S. NAVY Ret. - 1970-1979

cheers!

I didn't want to seem to be impugning the sincerity of those who posted of their gratitude to all vets, though technically such intent is erroneous. Military veterans are commemorated by their own day each year on the 11th of November -- previously called "Armistice Day" until renamed Veteran's Day by an act of Congress in 1955.

Normandy and Pearl Harbor are a must for all US citizens. We were told that there are at least 250,000 US servicemen buried in European military cemeteries.

+1k !!

One of the most memorable moments in my life came when coming into port in Pearl Harbor.

To have the ship's company on deck rendering a salute as we pass the USS Arizona is extremely moving... and affirming. Those guys were us !!

cheers!
