I purchased a Fender Corona California Stratocaster second hand from a guitar shop, but I need to know if it is a genuine example of this guitar as the head logo is partially rubbed away and there is no serial number on the neck. It is white with a pearloid scratchplate, a 21 fret maple fret-board, 3 single coil pickups, Fender logo tuning heads, Fender Corona California neck plate. It see, with an authentic Fender Stratocaster sound, and seems of good quality. I would be greatly appreciative if someone could put my mind at ease one way or the other. I can provide photos if needed.

The wear to the serial number area under the logo looks quite intentional to me. The California Series guitars had California Series written on the headstock and used split post tuners.

In fact scratch that, I think you have a fake guitar. The logo looks all wrong, too undefined on the smallprint.

The real way to tell is to take the neck off, take some photos of the neck heel and neck pocket on the body.

The weird thing is, it plays really well, and has more bite than my Mexican player deluxe stratocaster. Just goes to show there are a lot of unscrupulous dealers out there, and I've got a lot to learn. Thanks for replying, even if it was with bad news :)

Looks like a Mexican Standard. Think you got swindled, depending on what you paid. 21 fret 6 screw trem...Sorry man that guitar looks like south of the border

I suspected as much, which is why I asked you guys. It plays well, better on gain, than my Mexican player deluxe. Thanks for taking time to reply, much appreciated, man.

I agree...the serif on the capital F of Fender is wrong methinks.

Look fake to me . Is there a black rubber / plastic under the neck/ body chrome plate ?

If yes it is also a proof it is a fake.
Black plug at the nut and peg head is not Fender made.

Yes it could play better than your Mexican . MIM is not top of the line guitar

Yes, you're right, I should perhaps mention that I am in fact blind! I wish I had you guys to go guitar shopping with! Wonder if Jeff Healy had this problem, my daughter is typing this up for me by the way, thanks again guys, much appreciative.

Black plastic under the neck plate can be added at any time by any one. The black truss adjustment surround has been a feature on lots of Fender guitars as well as the six screw trem (try buying a '57 Strat with a 2 point trem), including the California Series guitars.

Allparts necks also have the black plastic truss adjustment surround.

I'm not saying it's not a nice guitar, that's the decision of the hands and ears, not the eyes. I just think the logo is wrong, the R in the circle at the end of Fender is too thick. And the guitar doesn't have the tuners it is meant to have.

Jeff Healey played Squier Strats. No one ever told him he sounded bad.

That is not I see on Allparts necks. IMO these guitar have a look of a import made neck, not Allparts made.

I have a MIM. It came with the black truss rod binding, and it has the same kind of tuners. I'm guessing it's a MIM.

Also, MIM guitars sometimes have a transitional logo, or the white logo. I see it all the time at various concerts I attend, and most of the time, those guitars absolutely kick $@!. (yet that's in the player's hands)

Also, look at the differences between a USA made guitar and a MIM guitar and guess what the biggest difference is... The price! You're paying for something that's basically meaningless.
