Just checked with my U of O law professor buddy in Norman -- the town's unharmed though without utilities at the moment in many areas. Just north of him is Moore, which apparently got flattened. They definitely need help.

May the victims find comfort, and many Americans help the rebuilding efforts.

Here´s to solidarity even from afar.

God bless.

Unfortunately the news from Moore, Oklahoma (10 miles south of OKC) continues to get worse as time goes on. They are confirming 91 dead at this hour.....many of them children. They expect that number to rise as they continue search and recovery efforts through the night. There are still many unaccounted for....again including children.
Two schools were hit, one directly, many of the child fatalities are from that school. The teachers took all the necessary precautions, but with a tornado this size sometimes there isn't a place above ground to hide. The last day of school was scheduled for this Thursday.
The storm started out small and rapidly grew producing the tornado within 30 minutes. Very unusual. It was on the ground for approx 14 miles cutting a path as wide as 2 miles at some points. Traveled slowly, approx 15 mph. That's one of the reasons for so much damage. They call it a grinder as it took it's time traveling through the neighborhoods. About an hour from the time the storm showed up on radar it was all over with.
If you're sending out prayers, remember this is just one of many tornados in Oklahoma the past 2 days, although by far the worse. Please remeber all of the other victims as well.
The storms are not over. Alhtough not as likely as the past 2 days, they are forecasting the possibilty of tornados tomorrow. I'm still up at this hour because we have storms moving into our area as I'm typing this. Fortunately no tornado warnings right now.
Our band is currently working with a club owner close to the damaged areas to perform a fund raiser this weekend for the victims. If we get things organized 100% of the proceeds will go to the victims. Wish us luck.

Thought I would share some pics from Sunday and Monday's storms.

This is a tornado in Edmond, just north of OKC. This was on Sunday
Image

Also from Sunday's storms is this pic of hail near Choctaw, just east of OKC. Tornados aren't the only danger with these storms.
Image

This is the tornado that touched down in Shawnee on Sunday, about 40 miles east of OKC. 2 people died in this tornado.
Image

This tornado touched down NW of Tulsa on Monday. No injuries or deaths reported.
Image

This is the tornado that devestated Moore on Monday.
Image

Here's a view of the NW sky from my front door Monday evening. Skies clearing before the next round of storms. We are lucky since all we have experienced is thunder, lightening, rain and high winds.

Ferocious, fierce, violent...prayers and positive thoughts sent, especially for the children.

Godspeed!

There is some really good news this morning....the Medical Examiners offce has lowered the death count to 24, however there are still some not accounted for including teachers and children from the school that was destroyed. The debris is piled 20 to 30 feet high and they are moving as quickly as they can, but they do have to be careful.
Also 101 people were rescued overnight.

Just minutes after the tornado past, injured and bleeding, teachers carried students out of one of the schools that was hit by the tornado.

If you've never experienced a tornado, consider yourself very lucky!

Local, State and Federal government agencies are on site aiding those in need. They are all doing a top notch job and we are truly thankful for that.

But what is so amazing are the everyday, ordinary people like you and I. If you have ever wondered what people from Oklahoma are like, just look into some of the stories coming out of this disaster.

One example is a local emergency road side service company is on site 24/7 fixing flats not just for the first responders, but for anyone in the area that experiences a flat tire.....all free of charge. And there are alot of flat tires due to the debris.

Many restaurants and hotels are offering food and rooms to the victims free of charge. One person donated thousands of hotel points he had built up. Oklahoma University is close by and they have opened up dorms and their cafeterias to those that need it.

So many trying to help they are being turned away. So many bringing food, water, blankets, clothing, etc.... that they are asking that we donate $10 to the Red Cross or one of the other entities on hand helping out instead.

Proud to be an Okie right now.

Also surrounding states are sending aid to the people in Moore. A heartfelt thank you for that as well. West Virginia University's baseball team is in OKC for the Big 12 Tournament. They went to a Wal-Mart last night to purchase items for the victims and first responders. A class act on their part. Reminded me of the movie We Are Marshall.
