When I overcame roadie and saw that I´m now an aspiring musician,
I went back to the thoughtful study of scales. :D

For guys like Miami Mike and Arjay and Ceri, we should push for new titles!

Actually, I am as old as Moses. In fact, I was there when he came down the mountain with his tablets. I said to him; "Nice try, dude, but I've a feeling they're not going to pay any attention..."

BTW: I really have visited St Catherine's monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai of Ten Commandments fame. In the monastery they have what they claim is the Burning Bush. Not a bush, not a descendent of the Burning Bush - but the Burning Bush itself, the bush that cannot be consumed by fire.

And standing next to it that day was a big red fire extinguisher. Those monks are taking no chances with their flameproof burning bush, and did not seem to appreciate my happy laughter at the sight.

Here is the not-so-Burning Bush:

BTW: there's a different kind of Forum ranking, if you know where to look.

If you mouse-over your red hyperlinked username on pages here, at the bottom left of your browser window a bit of code will appear ending with something like "...=viewprofile&u=12345". That number is an ordinal representing the sequence in which people joined the Forum. (More or less: some users have been deleted, and there are other reasons the sequence isn't quite precise.)

For example, Miami Mike is 18107, which means he was the 18,107th person to sign up to the Forum. Chet Feathers was 197th and I, joining a few weeks after him in 2007 am user number 52,231.

Interestingly, Brad Traweek, who built the Forum, is user #3.

Hee-hee: the myserious Mr ForumAdmin appears to be #2. On the members list there is no #1: either he has left the building or Brad courteously left that position for Leo, as you say. The right thing to do. 8)

If that was the case, I'm afraid I'll never get above "Amateur" and I'm not even there yet

I don't think post count matters. Nor does the order in which people joined the forum matter as I'd hardly call that a ranking of any real importance.

Some newer members are bona-fide Fender freaks such as AFFPROD who posts often in the bass section and has a stunning collection that makes me drool. Some people with lots of valuable knowledge just don't talk much, but when they do you should listen, such as BCBASSMAN.

On the other hand some people with super high post counts don't really have much to say beyond restating the obvious or just throwing out random factoids that are pretty much irrelevant to the the topic at hand.

And then there's the category SKCOPPER falls into, which is the category of "Would have five times more posts if they hadn't melted down online and got booted from the forum so hard that they had to rejoin under another ID and email." Plus lots of members have vaporized. Some have died. People come and go all the time. Some even go of their own free will. After the "CLOWNGATE" inquisition many valuable bass members felt compelled to voluntarily go elsewhere and most never returned. I miss them all here but know how to get up with them if I need a good aluminum cornbread pan.

Few people here are ever cruel and intolerant, but the few who do get twisted sometimes make me wonder why I spend so much time here. Recently I wonder that more and more. Being a forum member here has it's ups and downs but the chief benefit is making friends and I have made some friends. I talked to one on the phone today. They are someone I never actually met, but who is as good a friend as I've got.

Of course, you are correct. I only made the post out of curiosity and because a user asked Arjay (Retroverbial) to award him a "pick" for his contributions to the forum.

Many people join forums and never post or even come back. Like most forums, there will always be the jerks that try to start arguments and they generally don't know what they are talking about. There are also many people on forums like this that are very friendly, knowledgeable, and share their experience without expectation of any rewards. Some of them, including yourself, have a very good command of the language and express factual, historic, and accurate information along with humor that makes for enjoyable reading.

It does seem that many of the members with high post counts are very knowledgeable but others who have recently joined show the same traits also.

So, the post count doesn't really matter to me either. Since I joined I think I have acquired some new friends and I have learned a lot and looking forward to learning more.
