And I'm absolutely terrified! At first the guy said just come and we'll talk shop, but just a few minutes ago he texted me to bring an acoustic guitar if I have one. To make matters worse, We're meeting at a public place (starbucks) so I'm really self conscious about my playing especially with the acoustic! Am I freaking out too much? :|

Breathe.

Then think about your goals for playing in a band and how you wish to present them to the group.

Be honest and yet willing to entertain the viewpoint(s) of the others.

Bring breath mints.

Best of luck, HTH

No, in fact you are not freaking out nearly enough! Be sure to ratchet up your freak-out level at Starbucks with lots and lots of coffee.

But seriously, best of luck! :D And it's just one audition, so relax. Even if it doesn't work out, there will certainly be more in your future.

I'm more worried about sucking badly in front of people. The worst critics are the non musicans that will be around me LOL! I'm limbering up with my acoustic right now. What sucks about acoustic is that it's very unforgiving when it comes to expose sloppy technique. Ah I'll just load up in coffee LOL!

You could always ask him to meet at a bar instead. Then go early and have a couple of drinks to calm your nerves.

Lol, dude, don't even think.

I drummed for a guitar player for the first time a couple weeks ago.

I'm more calm right now after jamming with my acoustic for about an hour. :)

Think positive, know your strengths and weaknesses and just have fun with it.

Hope you get the gig if it's what you truly want!

Hope it went well. Though I have to say if someone told me he wanted to meet at a Starbucks I'd probably skip it. The first thing I'd think is that he was probably a hipster d'bag. Though I suppose that's a good way to judge if someone is cool with playing in front of a crowd or not. Not that you should really care what the people who hang out in Starbucks think.

Far too late to this to be of any use. But I always go with happy, polite personable manner. Let the playing worry about itself, as long as you've done your homework. Which I obsess over for weeks beforehand. (I do my best to wrangle a couple of weeks prep time).

Even bands where I haven't passed the audition keep in touch with me cos I get on with them and they know I'm probably going to be willing should they ever need someone to dep.

I like auditions. It's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but it's a ride you can enjoy if you get your head right.

And all the best, hope you knock em bandy.

It went very well! They're 3 cool kids in their mid 20's and luckily for me they were not all hung up on my skillset, but more on personality and dedication. So they really liked me even though I'm an old man in their eyes and we might rehearse this Sunday! Still missing a bassist though, but I think I'm in a band!

Well done, very well done.

Like I said, we ain't looking to play the Albert Hall, most of us are looking to have fun. Personality goes a long way.
