Has anyone here worked through this book?

http://www.amazon.com/Blues-You-Can-Use/dp/0793542057/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368148154&sr=8-1&keywords=blues+you+can+use

I would like to take lessons but the nearest guitar teacher is about 60 miles away from me so that's pretty much out of the question. Learning from a book seems to be my only option right now.

Not checked the net lately?

Lessons everywhere. Songs, technique, whole courses dedicated to blues playing.

A book is but one option.

Two books I highly recommend, and which I am currently using, are:

The Guitar Fretboard Workbook

and

The Guitar Reading Workbook

Both by Barrett Tagliarino

Available from a number of sources, incl. Amazon.

These are wookbooks with concise lessons in reading basic notation and knowing the fretboard. They have excercises for you to complete and all answers are in the back of the book. You can't really 'cheat' because the goal is for you to learn these things no matter how you do it.

My training has advanced significantly with these books.

I am taking one-on-one lessons as well and my teacher (Berkelee School of Music Graduate Degree), looked over these books and said they are excellent. He is now making them required reading for all his students.

Check em out !

cheers!!

THE HEAVY GUITAR BIBLE. RICHARD DANIELS

Lost my copy and miss it dearly.
Great narrative, illustrations and concepts.

I am crazy about books, all kinds.
Highly reccommend this one.
