I am speaking up for the many that have been ostracized countless times on-line just because they have a different opinion than most. Being called a troll is humiliating and causes long-term psychological stress on the individual. Something has to be done about this problem. I think we have gone way too far in protecting the rights of the so-called "bullied" now we have to protect everyone in general. :|

+1K !!

The OP may have some merit on a case-by-case basis, but in general this Forum is what it is.

No one is either forced to join, leave or remain.

But, a certain amount of decorum is required (as with most groups in life).

I have seen many voice opposing views in a manner in which those views are respectfully received.

I have also seen others come on strong, some merely as 'contrarians' purposely trying to elicit conflict and controversy.

It is therefore of little surprise (to me at least) that they are shunned or treated as Trolls.

While you have time-in-grade of more than one year, your 'active' participation of 41 posts may not put you in the best position to generalize about this Forum.

Plus, didn't realize you'd been elected to: "speak up for the many that have been ostracized countless times on-line just because they have a different opinion than most. "

Just sayin'...

Cheers!

..Really? I think one has to take comments with a grain of salt. I can think of far worse things that can cause long term psychological stress on individuals. :?

First world problems- Being trolled on the Internet.

I admit that sometimes on this forum, the wagons get rounded up a little too quick. (for you on the other side of the pond, that's a cowboy and indian reference :D )
And, I would hate to think that any one posting on these forums would suffer long term psychological stress.
However, after reading some original posters half baked attempts at raising an opposing view in a manner that might illicit good debate, it makes me wonder if they have enough brain content to suffer long term damage.
I think Mick explained it best:
"He can't be a man cause he doesn't smoke, the same cigarettes as me!" 8)

Oh no, I got psychological stress because people on the internet don't agree with me and think I'm a mythical creature.

:?

One of those things about the 21st century that makes me glad to be a nihilist

Ahh, it's my play into 4Chan's mockery of "trolling" (what people think trolling is) and the overuse of the trollface. (seen below)

Image

the file name is "le_troel_afrika"

This is bad trolling. If you want to "troll" someone, put of an ad on CL as a lady looking for a night of fun. Tell them to wear something you can identify, like a white shirt, then tell them it's "first come, first served" and they can meet you at a local restaurant so you don't reveal your address. I've done it multiple times and it's hilarious each time. Just have a couple good friends, and some good "mood enhancers" ( ) and just be calm and cool.

I've spent many nights in Denny's until 2:00AM or later, just trying not to laugh. It's really hard to not laugh at desperate, horny, men.
