Hey, I like Dick Van Dyke too. Just not in those movies. Great physical comedian.

Is that like supercalifragilisticexpealadocious?

(Pardon me while I get supercilious) I hate Disney's Live Action Movies, particularly Marry Poppin's. I'd rather listen to Rap than Dick Van Dyke singing in a bad SoHo Accent. Now That's Super-SillyAss entertainment.

The Aristocats, however, that's right up my Alley.

I never was a Disney fan, even as a kid. You're right though, Dick Van Dyke was horrible in Mary Poppins. Come to think of it Chitty Chitty Bang Bang too.

Dick Van Dyke is a totally underated name! Rock on Dick!
Dick Van Dyke got the Chops, but Dinsey Wasted them, who the heck was his Vocal Coach?

And an iteresting point about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, it was written by Ian Fleming of 007 fame. (Stick To Dimond Smugglers, Ian)

Gravity Jim and bmcmillin, thank you for your thoughtful replies. Yes, 'have listened to enough rap to draw apersonal conclusion and the previously made statement stands for this player.

Point well made; some blues and country is indeed also lyrically sad.

Personally, 'am a lounge / pop / jazz / surf / folk rock / classical / world music melodic player and not vocalist. None of the above genres dwell on hate, violence, death or crime, so hopefully 'am not too much a hypocrite.

Peace.

I realize this wasn't aimed at me, but I want to put my 50 cent in.
South African World Music is extremely violent, Their Gangs listen to and write "World Music".
Classical, have you been to a Tragic opera? Talk about Death, Violence and Mindless Clap Trap.
Folk, Loung, Pop, and Jazz are about whatever they are about, they're not inherently Positive.
Same with Rap/Hip-Hop. 50 cent may be a negative Banger with nothing good to offer, but MC Hammer was one Positive Mo-Fo.
I don't listen to Rap, but it's not because my taste in Music exsists in a higher plain. It's because..........

I get Off on 57 Chevy's
I Get Off on Screamin' Guitars
I love the way It gets me
Everytime it hits me
I got a Rock and Roll
(I've Got A Rock And Roll)
Heart

And Rappers prefer to
BRING THE NOISE!

Wow. I'm surprised Gravity Jim hasn't gotten back on here to tell us how stupid and invalid our opinions are. Maybe he's too busy recording elevator music for commercials.

Nope, no problem here with Gravity Jim. I don't like or dislike him. I just wish he would start being more polite to the forum members and stop treating people like their opinions don't matter. Living a celibate life hasn't helped his bad attitude!!

RAP, like Flo ridas' "low", it absolutely DISGUSTS me, these losers have nothing else in life to think about but po--ah, "not dressed" women, then they write songs about it, and people LOVE it, it makes me sick

the worst songs on the radio today:

Low- Flo rida
Touch my body- Mirah Carey
I kissed a girl(?)- ?????
and countless others i can't recall right now...

I agree. The i kissed a girl is by some no nomed singer who amost had a hit single if not for the fact that she has no talent what soever

Secretsoundz, your post makes you sound jealous. Let me clear up your misconceptions.

1. I added my opinion to this thread… am I supposed to behave like most of you Internet children and engage in a flame war? Uh…. No, thanks. Go ahead and impede your progress as a musician by spending time lingering over what you “hate.” I don’t care if it holds you back.

2. I actually don't have a "bad attitude." What I have is little patience for people who don't think through their opinions. On the contrary, what this entire thread demonstrates is a bad attitude.

3. My work isn’t “elevator music," and it (and my client list) speaks for itself. By the way, let me know when you get paid to work in a recording studio. I won’t hold my breath.

4. I’m not celibate. I’ve been married to the same woman for 28 years.

It’s true that I am not a “butter wouldn’t melt in my mouth” Internet nice guy… you want to argue, I’ll do it, and in definite terms. But I don’t engage in personal attacks.

You do, it seems, and of the most childish variety. One more and I’ll ask administration to ban you from this forum for violating terms of use.

I hate country and rap. Country talks about nothing but having sex(which is alright to an extent) but then other songs talk about nothing but crying. Rap is nothing but talking about drugs and $@!&. They both just get on my nerves. Can I get an amen?
