Grav Jim, you stated that if some type of music pisses you off you aren't really listening to it and react this way for your definition of "fashion". Being that by fashion you mean what is in the current trend or not. If I am wrong in my understanding of what you said, I apologize.

I would like to define some terms in "my" understanding. So here we go:

Art: The expression of ones creativity, whether it be visual, aural, physical, etc.

Most art, as far as I can determine, is to convey ones creativity to others and to provoke an emotional response. Oftentimes to instill the creators emotions to the spectator, viewer, listener.

Therefore; IMHO, art's purpose is to provoke an emotional response. Have you ever listened to a piece of music that made you cry? Handel's Messiah did it for me, btw. I saw it live at the Phoenix Symphony. It was incredible.

So I submit to you that yes, it is okay to have music that pisses you off, makes you horny, makes you love, makes you laugh, etc.

Case in point, I had been engaged to my fiance for just over a year and it was less than two months to my wedding day. Needless to say, cold feet syndrome was starting to set in. I heard Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues and my doubts were removed. The poem Late Lament has a special meaning to me now ever since that day.

Okay, my rant and observations are over.

C'mon, now Abhu Ghraib? 1 week of bad music is comparable to physical torture. We're talking about music here dude.

Well spoken. I agree. Music is tied directly to our souls. I too have been brought to tears from music that taps into your being. That's why I listen to a lot of different stuff depending on my mood. For example, if I'm taking a Sunday drive and enjoying the day I might be listening to Marvin Gaye. If it's been a bad day or I'm hyper I find Slayer to be appropiate.

Oh, please. That's not even close to what the OP meant and you know it. This is just another one of those "dump all your frustrations and tell what you hate" threads that eat up too much space on the Internet.

Give me credit for having some brains.

Rap is sad; so much is pure anger, negative emotions, lack of respect, dwelling on violence, bad vibes raised to high exponents.

Pity so many people spend their precious earthly time in that mindset / rut/ state.

I never implied to the contrary. It seems this thread has provoked some emotional responses as well.

And so much isn't.

You haven't really listened to any, have you?

You now what cracks me up? People will get on their moral high horse about rap, and then go to a blues jam and play "Hey, Joe" like it was classical art.

"I'm gonna go shoot my woman down..." Yeah, that's real high-minded of you, there, Stagger Lee. You go on down to the crossroads, sell your soul to the devil, shoot up some heroin, get in a knife fight, get stuck in Folsom Prison, then wail me some blues about how-how-how-how heavy your burden be.

AHAHAHAHA!

How right you are! The lyrics are the same, it is just the melody that has changed!

Also listen to Strangle Hold by Ted Nugent! Look at Johnny Cash's lyrics too! "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die". Yes, that is very inspirational! If you are a psychopath!

Sorry if you misread that... I was being jocular, not angry. I don't care enough about what anyone thinks to have an emotional response to this or any other "thread." I was simply informing you that your argument didn't hold water in any way, because you were defending a bad interpretation of the OP's intent.

LOL So you were just letting me know that not only do I not know what the hell I am talking about, but I also can't comprehend what I read. Thanks. I appreciate your citizenly concern! :D

And yes, I am smiling when I post this. I am not offended. I am just having some fun.

It only piss me off when I haven't got a choice of whether or not to listen to it, I think NO ONE should expose a whole street, shop or any other public crowd to what music they might personally like, it's just a general respect thing

But 'of course' I prefer my neighbor playing Richard Wright instead of the teenage girl across the street(not really a street) booming 90's dance 8)

WRONG!!!! IT'S REALLY MUSIC!!!!!! YOUR GRANDPA SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT ROCK!!!???!??

Sometimes it's music, sometimes it's Beat Poetry, or Rhetorical Art. Not necessarily Music. Grandparents not withstanding.

To be completely honest, I really find rap to be pointless and very annoying.

G. JIm, I thought the question was what kind of music pisses you off. I gave my opinon, sorry if you don't like it, so be it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the constant canard that "rap isn't music" pisses ME off. Like it or don't, but it's music... like it or not.
its not music, its chanting with a annoying beat in the background
