How dare I? Well, first of all, I didn't assume anything about you, and secondly I "dare" all kinds of things.

But what I said was.... if you feel that music "pisses you off," then you're just trying to make a fashion statement by being pissed off. It's stupid to get mad over how someone else chooses to express themselves. That doesn't mean that I think you have to like everything (I don't like everything), or that you should be forced to listen to everything (that's dumb): I just said, correctly, that people who can hate an entire genre of music (I hate country, I hate rap, etc.) are simply consumers of music making choices for all kinds of social reasons that have nothing to do with the sound of the music.

Okay. I now get your point. I don't hate any type of music, but certain artists get under my skin. No social reasons, just what annoys my ears. You keep talking about fashion. Do you read Cosmo?

I get irritable and angry hearing that stuff put down women and others; I believe we're here to build each other UP not tear ourselves down.

There's a squiggly line in my head as to what constitutes "good" country versus "bad" country.

GOOD: Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Billy Joe Shaver, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Shooter Jennings [although he's not straight country], Dwight Yoakum, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Joe Ely, Robert Earl Keen, Hank I, Jr., & III, etc. Most of the Alt-Country crowd is pretty good.

BAD: All the performers that are singing the formulaic crap out of Nashville.
There are now three types of country songs:
(1) Sappy Ballads that are are about raising your kids, teenage angst and staying faithful to your mate; these are aimed directly at lower-middle-class soccer moms;
(2) Songs that are "punny" (mix a pun and something funny, and you come up with "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy", "Some Beach, Some Where", "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off"--in other words something not funny); these are aimed at drunk cowboy wannabes and their lower-middle-class soccer mom wives;
(3) Songs that are re-treads of late 70s/early 80s Southern Rock and Lite Metal; these songs are basically bad covers of .38 Special and Def Leppard with a fiddle added to the mix.

I hate the mainstream country industry almost without exception--and it's sad, because many of the artists have a lot of talent and/or ability. They have chosen the (money) path of (money) success, (money) popularity and (money) money, to the detriment of an entire genre of music.

There's nothing wrong with success, popularity, and money, but you can't tell me it was the dream of those artists to be singing these stupid songs.

Good Vibes To Y'all!

oh come on!! I love those songs! haha then again, Country's not everyone's cup of tea.... :roll:

I like a decent amount of styles, excluding the ones with like the birds chirping, and waterfalls in the background, and people singing almost unhumanly high! but I like everything from ska, to country, to rock, pop, a little rap (don't go hating me!! I don't LOVE IT :wink: ), and lots of other stuff...

No. Fashion is the science of "what's hot and what's not." Any pop culture that is largely dependent on a group of people deciding what's cool is fashion. It's not just clothes.

For example, ask any group of guitar players about various female vocalists and they'll all say they hate them. Truth is, if they heard Mariah Carey or Celine Dion sing in person, it would fry their brian, and if you advertised for a female singer for your band and Shania Twain showed up, you'd crawl over broken glass to hire her.

The musical truth is that they're terrific performers. The "fashion" says it's not cool to dig them.

THAT's what I'm talking about. I'm willing to bet that guys who say they hate rap haven't listened to even one hip-hop record all the way through, have never heard really artistic rap tracks like "Die Alone" by Scritti Pollitti or "It's Goin' Down" by X-ecutioners.

Most things on popular radio stations annoy me in general. I don't hate it, I'd rather not listen to it though. Most of it is some bland attempt to gain commercial success like most rap. People somehow listen to it though and keep feeding the artists to make more while numerous, more talented (in my mind) artists go completely unnoticed.

RAP, like Flo ridas' "low", it absolutely DISGUSTS me, these losers have nothing else in life to think about but po--ah, "not dressed" women, then they write songs about it, and people LOVE it, it makes me sick

the worst songs on the radio today:

Low- Flo rida
Touch my body- Mirah Carey
I kissed a girl(?)- ?????
and countless others i can't recall right now...

Actually... I always kinda considered "Touch My Body" maybe to be a guitar-kinda-anthem when you look at it the right way. :roll:

Otherwise I DO agree with you on the other choices. And before any one flames me... I don't really care for "Touch My Body" more than I do making fun of it. >_>

I don't like all these pop rock bands that sound the same like fall out boy and all time low. all the songs are written the same way two chords played in a poppy way with the lyrics all basically saying "hey girl i like you and even though u wont date me i still love you"

thats why i dont like the music.

It,s very simple. Rap, any metal ,hip hop and any of that screamo noise is not music. The rest has a lot of good and bad,mostly good.

Well, the constant canard that "rap isn't music" pisses ME off. Like it or don't, but it's music... like it or not.
