I'm not gonna beat you up, but it's obvious you've shaped your opinion about a genre as varied as Blues with the usual misconceptions. Give SRV's Scuttle-Buttin' a listen, or anything Freddie King, Johnny Winter, Lonnie Mack, or Albert Collins. If you still don't like the blues, that's cool, but at least your description of it will be more accurate.

It seems to me you haven't been exposed to enough Blues to have made a statement like that. The Blues is more than just the I-IV-V 12-bar Blues that I assume you are referring to. And yes, some bluesmen say that you can say more in one note than you can with a blizzard of notes. Maybe that's what you're referring to. In any case, let me comply with your request, "You're crazy." Just kidding.

I detest rap, of course, but I have a bigger dislike for pop music. Mostly bands like Fallout Boy, We the Kings, Jonas Brothers, etc. Just...to me...it all sounds the same, like it's all about the same stuff, with the same type of rhythm. Just my two cents.

Actually, a lot of the current pop music sounds the same to me, too. They all seem to use the same hooks probably because they have been successful in the recent past. I always cringe at making statements like "it all sounds the same to me" because I live in dread fear of turning into my parents . . . even at my advanced age.

For me its the so-called R&B. Its all the same sounding, nasal, whiney voiced stuff. The videos are all the same; lots of bling, fancy cars, and wall to wall girls shakin' their booties at the camera. And the same monotonous beat.

I always thought R&B was meant to be Rythm and Blues. Look hard enough and there might be a rythm but it sure doesn't sound like Blues to me!

Maybe I'm just getting old...

For me modern R&B has little or nothing to do with what i think of when I hear the words R&B.

Music that doesnt push the envelope in any way tends to bug me alot. No matter the musical style. If you cant be yourself/creative, what are you really doing for music? I know I will get lambasted for this but to me a HUGE example of this is AC/DC. That band has written basically the same album for about 30 years. Its really time for them to just get out of the way.

Another music that annoys me personally is blues (ok start beating me up in 3..2...1). To me its just so frickin slow and honestly where are the notes? It just sounds like a big excuse to not have to play very much. I dunno, call me crazy.

Also, I see alot of rap mentions. I think rap has its place but it is not very fun, especially for guitar players, because it is so rhythm/beat consumed. Personally I can enjoy some rap but very little. I am very choosy there.

Alot of the blame for crap music is on the consumers. They are much too willing to accept albums with 1 good song and 10 fillers. There needs to be a demand for full-album quality, like there used to be. I think the 60s and 80s mentality is back again.

Take a listen to Red House(by Jimi Hendrix) and call me in the morning........I wont give you a history lesson here, but blues laid the foundation of a LOT of music.
However you are entitled to your opinion so I wont give you any grief..

No music ticks me off on its own.

Being forced to listen to something I don't want to hear by a sonically powered Pinto or a web site that starts to blare music into my sound system without asking if it is OK to interrupt what is already playing can get under my skin.

I know what you mean, I HATED blues for the longest time. A couple of years ago I would've said the same thing. I thought it was just slow crap that the people who couldn't play rock or metal played. And I thought only old people still played it. I was all into metal of all kinds, prog rock (like Yes) and real technical, fast stuff like that. When I first heard Stevie Ray Vaughan I thought it was boring and that I could play just as good. My Dad wanted me to learn to play Pride and Joy since he was learning it on bass at the time. So I thought it was going to be a piece of cake and that I'd get it done in a couple of days to humor him. Well, it turns out that after a month solid of trying to play it, I still couldn't. I didn't understand how that was possible that I couldn't play blues, but at the same time I could play quite a few Van Halen songs (including the solos). And on top of that it was very embarrassing since I had already gone around telling everyone I could play anything that any blues player (specifically SRV) could. That was a lesson in humility. I'm never going to say anything like that again.

So about a year went by and I totally forgot about SRV. At that time the one and only thing I would listen to was metal, because I thought that was real cutting edge. Then one night I was on my way to bed and my Mom called me to come watch something on TV. I hate it when she does that, because it's usually something boring or educational. But when I walked in it was some guitar player in a cowboy hat playing some insanely fast blues song. I figured it wasn't my cup of tea, but I'd watch it anyway as an excuse to stay up late. By the end of the first few songs my jaw was hanging down on the floor and I had come to the revelation that this was cutting edge, was fast, and was technical in it's own way. He was playing things as fast as people who play with two hands (tapping) only he was just using his left hand and a pick to play it! And it didn't sound robotic, like a machine or something. And I realized for the first time that just because I could play a 12 bar blues progression and throw in lick in here and there didn't mean I had mastered, or even understood blues. It turns out that that guitar player was Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Since then I've opened up to different kinds of music that I never would have listened to before and found that I like them. I've been playing guitar in a way that sounds more like me, not like some kid trying to tap faster then everyone else. I've also realized that almost everything that I thought was new (like speed picking for example, I thought it was a metal thing, turns out it's a surf thing too) has really been going on for decades in one style of music or another. I still like metal and technical stuff now, the only difference is that I like a bunch of other music in addition to it.

I'd suggest you go buy or rent a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan (Live at the El Mocambo is a good one) and watch it a couple of times. Or if buying or renting isn't an option, search Stevie Ray Vaughan on youtube. When you watch it, instead of just listening, it's a whole different experience. You can see how fast he's playing. If you don't like it, or if you still think it's slow you need to go to the doctor immediately, it means you must have some kind of illness. (I'm just kidding of course, music is a matter of taste. If you like it you like it, if you don't you don't.) Also, try to play it. I thought Texas Flood was pretty slow until I learned to play it. There are some really fast runs in there that you don't really notice until you play it.

So take the advise of this former blues-hater and go give SRV a listen! :D

This is easy, there isn't a single type of music that pisses me off.

All music is important to someone. Be it rap, rock, alternative, classic, metal or anything in between.

I love Rock, especially classic rock. Many people today do, and feel that the newer stuff sucks. Lets not ever forget though, that the classic rock we listen to today was once called "DEVIL MUSIC" and even "CRAP". ROFL. Rolling Stone gave both Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin II bad reviews saying that they were to heavy among other things.

Sure, I may not have a particular liking for Metal, but there are a few songs out there that I do like, and to many people out their that kind of music is their life.

Music, regardless of Genre, is its own language and it speaks to everyone, everywhere around the world.

Oh I like Red House and alot of the bluesy stuff Hendrix did. He added a sort of fuzzy/noisy element to it that I like. I sort of like fuzzy/noisy music. I understand that blues laid the groundwork for rock, but i can respond to that by saying crawling laid the foundation for walking and running :D . I suppose that is what I was getting at.

When you take apart blues artists from the whole, yes I can see individual talent in alot of them. But blues music (as a whole) to me just seems as I said, slow, (often times) lazy and empty (couldnt think of the word I wanted last time). I can appreciate that in small amounts (I am a big Hendrix and Gilmour fan) but when thats all you do, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

"smooth" jazz. It doesn't deserve the moniker of jazz. Muzak is a truer label.

To take a creative style of music and take the balls out of sounds pathetic.

It doesn't piss me off. I'm not going to get emotionally tied up in a certain style -- I just turn the channel to find something interesting.

I will say the players are really good and polished. But to take the soul out of a soulful style of music is craziness.
