Oh, also that new speed metal/punk junk, (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie. et al...). IMO, the talents of a good guitar player like John 5 is totally wasted on that kind of music.

I was working at Home Depot about a year and a half back and ended up working the night shift for a week to help out with inventory at a different store. The guys I was working with would bring in their boom boxes and crank that crap as loud as it would go. The only thing it was doing was pissing me off. It was nore than a general dislike of the music genre. It actually instilled feelings of anger within myself. After a couple nights of that crap I went over and sabotaged the boom box while nobody was looking.

Ahhh ... peace and quiet at last.

I hope by sabotage you mean you switch the batteries to bad batteries. You could have told him you don't like that music. It's pretty lame of you to "sabotage" his stuff. Think about you bringing your guitar to work and playing with it during break, someone hates your guitar and "sabotaged" it. Not so cool would it.

Country has gotten away from all the badasses like Hank Williams that made it great in the first place; it turned into backwoods disco with the electric slide, and now its just non-urban rap music (see: Cowboy Troy).

Ok... Done ranting.

I'm not big on country music either, but wow, blowing up trucks...lol. I'm sure it's annoying with Country USA in your back yard. I remember the guy that lives behind the land they stage Country USA was on the news last year for shooting his guns up in the air cuz he didn't like the promoters of the concert. Where r u in WI? I'm in GB.

You don't have to hate the music, just dislike it. that has nothing to do with paying atttention to fashion, it has to do with what music is just entirely incompatible with your taste.

I'm right a the bottom of Lake Winnebago. And I understand the pain of the guy that lives behind the concert... A whole week of nonstop sonic torture. Worse than anything they did at Abu Ghraib.

No music pisses me off. There are certain types of music that I don't care for and won't listen to.

I agree 100 percent, If you don't like it don't listen to it, it's not like there's only one radio station out there. I can't think of any genre that hasn't come up with at least one song I can't listen to.

Must be something custom to Wisconsin since the Cummins diesel is in a Dodge. Ford calls theirs a "Powerstroke" engine. BTW, I grew up in Wisconsin and still have family there (Madison, Milwaukee, Wausau) and I much prefer Country to Polka.

Why is it that its always the ones listening to Rap who have the insufferable need to crank up their 5 billion watt amps in those dinky little foreign cars?

On the contrary, I did ask them to turn it down several times. It wasn't permanent. I just removed the batteries and hid the CD. All of which was returned at the end of the shift.

Wrong! It has nothing to do with "fashion" as you are implying. I'm using my EARS. And, yes, there is music out there that I dislike so much that it pisses me off if I'm forced to listen to it. Work, stores and the like are enviroments where we are not able to always choose what we listen to. I love music enough to feel that stong about it. On the flipside there is music I love so much that I feel it is part of my soul. I listen to music from all eras, Gravity Jim, how dare you assume that I listen to music as a fashion statement? I listen to everything from Miles Davis to Slayer. I listen to jazz, blues, surf, rock-n-roll, western swing, folk, old country, punk, metal and a lot more.
Also, as a point of clarification, I don't actually get pissed when hearing stuff I profoundly dislike. It's not like I'm walking around P.O'd. It is annoying though.

I think the rest of the world is missing the basic understanding of how a musician perceives music as opposed to non-musicians.

MOST rap/hip-hop. some can be ok
MOST heavy metal music. I like some old metal but I really hate bands like Avenged Sevenfold (please don't hurt me)
Hannah Montana/ Miley Cyrus.

that's about it.

screaminarmadillo: I am SO glad I didn't accurately remember which brand has a Cummins diesel in it. I just had to say Cummins :P

And I'll take polka any day. Prost!

How dare I? Well, first of all, I didn't assume anything about you, and secondly I "dare" all kinds of things.

But what I said was.... if you feel that music "pisses you off," then you're just trying to make a fashion statement by being pissed off. It's stupid to get mad over how someone else chooses to express themselves. That doesn't mean that I think you have to like everything (I don't like everything), or that you should be forced to listen to everything (that's dumb): I just said, correctly, that people who can hate an entire genre of music (I hate country, I hate rap, etc.) are simply consumers of music making choices for all kinds of social reasons that have nothing to do with the sound of the music.

Man this is a HOT TOPIC!!!
I have to agree with most of you; most of that crap pisses me off. Sad to say and admit; but I feel no shame over it.
IMHO any kind of "ART" that disrepects ourselves; men or especially women calling them "hoes" (whores) and such; glorify killing or drug use has no place on the public airwaves.
Having said the above; I also do not care for sounds played so loud I am FORCED to hear/feel it; like automotive audio equipment so loud, with so much sub bass it effects my heart's rhythm.
Believe it or not I do not listen to Clapton everyday- all day (I used to) many days I haven't the time.
Youngsters at work have played a home made CD of their cousin's Santana Tribute band ALL DAY; very loudly, this inside a ship's compartment. Just one CD ALL DAY; I wanted to barf and I used to like Santana so long as he kept his politics out of his music; Bob Dylan he ain't.

As far as country music goes; calling those that like it "Mouth Breathers" it's a disrespectful term, well maybe they have trouble breathing through their nose; when she was single my wife wouldn't even talk to guys that were into NASCAR just "some thing about THEM!"
I have Don Williams "Best of" in my CD player and even some JJ Cale, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson; along with Jimmi and SRV and Coco Taylor, Montoya, oldies, EC, and so on. there is syrupy blues juts at there is crappy country, and just crappy music out there; isn't it nice that we have this refuge....

Maybe that promoter in Wisconsin should offer a HOTEL to the people that live in the niehborhood of the concert so they don't have to put up with all the disturbance.
We all have our dislikes; I knew a guy that just couldn't stand "all those screamin' guitars" in rock and blues.... INCREDABLE!!! well beyond my understanding at the time but I have since learned that his music appreciation and understanding of what that (screaming guitars) was about was seriously lacking...
I don't think that the Marilyne Manson (I don't know how it's spelled) and RAP type of STUFF has any connection to the human soul and isn't much of an expression of emotions or anything redeeming; just a lot of kids with mom's pots and pans...banging away.
I'm going to shut up now...
