You from Brooklyn? Biohazard, is from Brooklyn, that's what they sing about, violence in the street, the fights they did growing up. Most NYC Hardcore bands talk about the same thing, 25 Ta Life, Madball, Agnostic Front. They don't rap, they sing about the same things. I'm from Chelsea originally btw - Midtown.

I was in the party supply store Saturday, and whatever they were playing made me really uncomfortable... physically. It was just standard 90s pop... which I normally don't mind.

I think it was the way it was presented... I don't think there was any bass at all, it seemed very treble-y...

I completely hate 80's and 90's pop, rap, and classical music. I hate classical because you shouldn't have to think about the music you're listening to.

Rap drives me nuts!!! I also don't really get that screamer music. Sorry I don't really know what it's called, I probably sound dumb now. Oh well. I'm not really big on the classical jazz stuff and disco. I love rock n' roll!!!

Oh, also that new speed metal/punk junk, (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie. et al...). IMO, the talents of a good guitar player like John 5 is totally wasted on that kind of music.

I was working at Home Depot about a year and a half back and ended up working the night shift for a week to help out with inventory at a different store. The guys I was working with would bring in their boom boxes and crank that crap as loud as it would go. The only thing it was doing was pissing me off. It was nore than a general dislike of the music genre. It actually instilled feelings of anger within myself. After a couple nights of that crap I went over and sabotaged the boom box while nobody was looking.

Ahhh ... peace and quiet at last.

I hope by sabotage you mean you switch the batteries to bad batteries. You could have told him you don't like that music. It's pretty lame of you to "sabotage" his stuff. Think about you bringing your guitar to work and playing with it during break, someone hates your guitar and "sabotaged" it. Not so cool would it.

On the contrary, I did ask them to turn it down several times. It wasn't permanent. I just removed the batteries and hid the CD. All of which was returned at the end of the shift.
Should have put it in the paint
can shaker! Then put it back. Only one thing worst to listen to
then rap that a car playing it next to you and you have to hear it and the licence plate and every thing else on the cars rattle because no tone just bass.

Not every painting is art
Not every song is music

The question of what is art is a debate that will continue long after we are all dead. But I am of the opinion that most artists have the art of hot air down to a science and are seriously lacking in the "artistic ability" area. My background is in the area of fine art rather then music, but I would have to say that there is no moral requirement to except every "artist" as such. Therefore, it is perfectly rational to really dislike some performer that you feel is not "artistic" by your own interpretation of what artistic is.

Also, sometimes I start to dislike a particular song simply because it is overplayed. For me Cory Hart is the prime example of that ... I'd be very happy if I never heard "Boy in the Box" every again. Having a season pass to Disneyland has put "It's a Small World" in that category as well.

There is no rule that you shouldn't have to think about music you're listening to. Some people enjoy that. Millions enjoy that. They have for a couple hundred years. Hating what you don't understand, now that's what doesn't make sense.

You make some good points, but I must point out that Music is one of the Fine Arts.

Precisely, that is why I hold it to the same standards I hold painting and sculpture. Throwing some paint on a canvas doesn't make it art and random noise from an instrument doesn't make music.

:: edit :: Ah, I see your point .... I refer to myself as a fine artist rather then musician .... Ok, I work in visual rather then aural art :o

I see, I just missread what you meant  You make a good point about visual arts, Kurt Vonnegut's "Bluebeard" deals with Art as opposed to Modern Art in a very entertaining way.
