Hi Arnold!Congrats on getting that purty Epi G-400 SG,the Epi SGs are just fabulous,I have the G-400 Custom which is technically a Les Paul because it's a tribute reissue of the first SG bodied "Les Pauls" that appeared on the scene in 1961.It has 3 humbuckers and is antique white with all gold plated hardware, the pups sound much like PAFs too.My daughter's ex boyfriend liked my G-400 Epi more than he did his own Gibson SG and ended up relegating the SG to the closet when he got a G-400 of his own.

Epiphone does have a designated Custom Shop-they used to have one in Korea but I don`t know the location at this time.I have a beautiful Sunburst Limited Edition Custom Shop Firebird V and it sounds just like a mid 60s SG.They turn out some beautiful crafted guitars-which is quite obvious to anyone who sees the incredible quilting on your guitar.

A lot of people to this day say that you have to swap out Epi pickups right away because they`re inferior-this is pure unadulterated bovine excrement.I have 6 Epis and each and every one of them has the original pickups and will continue to do so for as long as I own them because no matter what naysayers think I can get monster tone from all my Epis and the humbuckers that Epi uses sre just great and dare I say-some ,such as the ones in my Les Paul Traditional Pro are just sublime and impart a tone just like the tones that Robert Fripp got on King Crimson`s first album in songs like "I Talk To The Wind" and "Epitaph".Enjoy your beautiful new G-400, she will sing as sweetly as an angel for you or wail like a banshee. All these tones are in her and I'm sure that you'll love every minute of coaxing them out.Cheers.

Yup thats what I ended up with too. Meeting tomorrow for each of us to have a test run.

Guitslinger...I agree with you on the look and sound, problem is it just doesn't feel right, and I don't get on with it so well, shame really, it is a real pretty guitar...I hope I won't regret letting it go down the road if the trade works out, as I've not seen another one like it.

I don't know why some folks tend to hate on Epiphones. I have a Gothic Les Paul Studio that I love. It's a 2004 model that was made in Korea and is all stock except for a Graph-Tech NV-2 6MM bridge which I installed on it. The stock alnico classic humbuckers on it just scream and don't sound muddy at all contrary to what some people say. It's all in how you adjust the pickup heights. I have mine setup according to Gibson's standards and it sounds great.

SG,s are odd characters. You either love them or hate them. They are top heavy and the necks are different. I have owned a few SG,s in my day. I always loved the sound and the neck always wanting to drop doesn't bother me but I couldn't get by the neck shape until the 61 ri came along. They are fantastic guitars and for me a keeper. The necks are wonderful and the pickups sound great. I don't know if epi has a version of the 61 ri but you might go that way if you get the SG urge again.

Met a nice retired guy, he just didn't get the feel of the Fender, as much as I didn't get the feel of the SG. He had a nice guitar room, several LP's, some martin acoustics, a few resonators...all immaculate. My SG was a perfect fit for him, as His Strat is for me....win, win! Nice to know that pretty quilt top went to a good home.
