My Corgan strat is very light and I can feel the resonance/vibration as I play. I mean I feel it literally in my belly and right arm that's touching the body. I've never weighed it but it is light.

My American Standard Strat is VERY heavy and I cannot feel any resonance as I play it.

I have no way to know if this is affecting tone as the pickups on each guitar are very different, but the Corgan seems to sustain forever (also has hard tail).

Does this add anything to this discussion?

And then there's the argument where the more powerful the pickups are in a given guitar, the less dependent the pickups are on the guitar's woods, hardware, etc. for a predetermined sound. So, I give this thread a big, "Whatever".

I'm with you on this one. I love to bend the G and B strings up while holding a note on the high E, no way of doing that with any kind of trem system I've ever found. Plus I hit the guitar pretty hard at times and if a string breaks I can at least finish the song without the remaining strings going out of tune.

Just bend the E sharp at the same time, plenty of people do it.
I just take spare guitars to gigs.

Not sure that's an option for riffs like this ...

Of course it is, if you've a finger on the string, you can bend it.

Or palm the trem

A lot of the time I'm covering the B and E strings with one finger and bending the G up a tone, there's not much more bending a man can do without snapping his fingers in half!

Problem there is it restricts you to picking near the bridge. Plus I play pick and fingers and palming the trem that hard restricts your right hand position way too much. The easy option for hard-core string bending is to just hardtail it and forget about the trem altogether.

Hold the bar. It'll take some getting used to but it'll work. Plenty of country players do it.

The Fender trem was designed to float from day 1. The patent drawings show it so.

I think Buxom was being sarcastic with his remark, I could be wrong on that though. It's just that I can see him imagining swathes of stop tail and blocked trem stormtroopers heading towards Poland demanding everyone do as they say.

Hold the trem bar ... and play pick and finger technique? How many fingers do you think I have on my right hand?

Nah, I can live without trem bridges. I don't even like them when they work properly, I always figured they were just there for when you can't think of a riff. All that silly divebombing stuff's not for me, I'll sign up for the hardtail legion and march on Poland.

Still the patent drawing clearly shows. The purist way is to float the trem. Purist... pure...allies

GilgaFrank.

You could become a devout Hindu and pray that you get many arms like Vishnu???

(You can obviously tell that I'm being tongue in cheek right?)
