I looked on the website, but outside of a unique visual, what is the purpose of the triangular cabs? Does it supposedly do something different or better?

From the web site under the HLH rig:

TRI-CAB 312: THE DELIVERY SYSTEM
The goal was to improve upon the legendary 4x12 speaker enclosure. According to founder/designer, Jamie Scott, "I’ve had issues with the standard 412 for years primarily with how uneven the frequency response can be, especially in the mid-range." We studied and broke down the 4x12 to its core elements and isolated those things we did like about it. As a result, we came up with proprietary ratios for internal cubic volume and angles for optimum deflection. Scott adds, "After building a proto-unit, I was blown away at how well the concept translated from paper to real life. Like a 4x12, it sounded really big but the phase-combing weirdness as well as the peaky mid-range “beam” were both gone."

By eliminating the "beaming" and comb-filtering of a typical cabinet, the HLH 312 cabinet provides an addictive point-source quality. When stacking three (3) 312 cabinets together, you obtain an optimal WET/DRY/WET sound in the same occupied space as two conventional 412 cabinets. Gone are the comb-filtering lobes that muddy your sound. Gone are the harsh "beams" of sound associated with typical rectangular cabinets.

.

So, yes. The triangle shaped cabs do something better.... for the ad copy guys. They give those guys lots of leeway to make sĥìt up.

 :)

The way I understand cab construction is that it has an effect similar to room dimension playing a part on the sound of a band. Different types of room will attenuate some frequencies and boost others. Cab dimension is similar, the internal area size of a cab is of great effect on the sound of the amp, with closed back cabinets. It's why the 1960A&B cab sizes and designs are vigorously protected by Marshall. Mesa and Peavey do similar. It's also why cabinets don't have two dimensions the same. Height is never the same as width or depth.
I suspect that is the reason behind the triangular cabs. However practicality wins over dimension every time with me, you can keep the triangle cab. I couldn't care less what it looks like, I want something that works and can have an amp head on top of it without having to piece a load of bits together.
