I worried about going away 2 weeks for JazzFest.

Worried that at this point in my development, a 2-week break would have me starting back at square one.

I even scoured the NOLA craigslist beforehand for a cheap guitar to buy and leave behind, just so as not to backslide. Never found one cheap enough or close enough, so I didn't play at all for the entire trip.

But, the break actually seems to have done some good. Aside from sore fingers from softened calluses (which I expected), my playing actually seems more smooth and I havn't forgotten a thing!

It sure did feel good to have a guitar back in my hands though !

cheers!

I'm like you. It takes so much effort to maintain what knowledge and chops I've put together that anytime I can't play for more than a day I start to worry about it. I have a three week vacation coming up in July to merry old England. I won't be able to maintain my level of practice that I've got myself into. But the friend we're staying with is a bigger guitar nut than I am and has them all over the house. So I won't be without some sort of fix.

A few months ago I was trying to break off a learning plateau. So I asked a good friend of mine and he told me "just put the guitar away for a week" So I did and when I picked it up again I felt much better and smoother. I guess your brain sometimes needs a break to learn new skills.
