Well yep, thats exactly my thoughts. I ditched lem oil over a year ago and went to using bore oil. Far better results and to make a bad pun, no where near as exciting. Think I'm going to give linseed a try though.

You could argue that the best luthier in the world is the one who sells the most. Which would put the ball firmly in Roland possession. However not all of those sales are guitar or lute type instrument. The absolute best seller of those is Fender, they sell more guitars than anyone else. Yet they don't advise the use of lem oil in the support section.

I've been using straight mineral oil for well over 10 years. get it in the local drug store for under $2 a bottle, and lasts forever. lemon oil is mainly just mineral oil with a lemon scent, real actual citrus lemon oil would be far too expensive by volume to sell. I will guarantee no guitar shop is selling actual real citrus based lemon oil.

Well you can expect a midnight visit from the Fingerboard Oil Police. Those guys don't tolerate teak oil users, no sir.

No I know they don't. Many frowns and much tut tutting afoot. Who knows they may get the same feds onto me that bullied Gibson and confiscate all my rosewood boarded guitars???

Still my fretboard seems nice and their argument that the rosewood has to be open for the pores never seems to bother Rickenbacker who clearcoat their fretboards.

I've scoured the internet* trying to find a description of what happens to a guitar fingerboard when you apply the wrong type of oil and so far found nothing.

* For a couple of minutes

Tell ya what happens mate, nothing. Or your engine runs funny till you sort it out.

Here's my train of thought on it.

People pay mucho green and folding for all these ancient instruments. Violins, Cellos, Double Bass, and electric guitars.

How many people do you think religiously went lem oiling their viola in 1673? Not many. And I've had two separate, much proven repair people tell me that they didn't even know what intonation was until 1970, let alone fret board oil.

Yet all them old bits of woodworm food seem to sell for silly money.

My bands old guitarist speaks just like that, do you know him?
He also developed a crooked mouth and sideways look so he could carry on drinking and talking at the same time.

He sounds familiar, does he have scarred knuckles from dragging them on the floor?
