Anyone else love this guy's videos? I watch these for hours and just laugh at his withering sarcasm and stinging critiques of guitars and basses.

Warning: he uses colourful language at times, best not watch that at work

The best bits are when he has something non Fender on his workbench.

davey's Stabinbacker story cracks me up. He kept breaking strings on his 4003, so he went to the sidestage and smashed it to chunks. I feel the same about those goofy basses.

Love Dave he cracks me up sometimes especially with the crazy neighbors he used to live next to. But he's a cool dude sometimes he'll set up or fix a guitar for some kid and won't even charge him for it. And he also fixes up old beaters for some charity or something that donates them to poor kids who can't afford to buy a guitar which in my book is pretty freakin awesome because I used to be one of those kids.

Nice to hear that behind the acidic tongue lies a heart of gold.

If I was a customer & took a guitar to him.. only to find that he posted a video on youtube and rubbished it to death... needless to say he would loose my business quick smart.. along with a piece of my mind.

Funny- on my Facebook wall a well known luthier recently said he refused to do an $800 job of fixing a snapped neck, and other upgrades on a chinese gibson fake guitar, and absolutley rubbished it to death. Funny thing is, most people in that game who need bread and butter would never pass on an $800 job.

But this guy on Youtube- ignorant to say he doesnt like an 8 string guitar, is like saying he doesn't like a 6 string bass lol

Can I just ask why you can't joke about your gear? When he says it's gooched, he means that it was messed with by the owner, or someone else. Usually that includes a joke, but so what? He's doing a fine job. I've used his methods on my gear and they work great. (like his pot cleaning method. Forgot the vid, but if you find it, it works)

I guess to me, his tone is dry- like a desert. Then again wherever he is from, has a completely different sense of humour to what I'm used to.

To you its humorous. To me, he is just whinging & moaning.

That's why he gets away with slagging gear off - he's very very good at his job and he tells it like it is, especially when he rants about people using steel wool on guitars. The whole video about cleaning your guitar is an eye-opener, Ronsonol lighter fluid and an old t-shirt, linseed oil on a rosewood board, works every time. And yet people still pay silly money for lemon oil.

I use grapeseed oil.

Some of the best luthiers in the world have said to use lemon oil..and have been doing so for the last 40 years. I think I'll stick with their opinion.
