TGS...One of the best things you can do is getting guitars up off the floor. Mounting them on the wall keeps em handy for practice and I find I "Rotate" them a little more. Here is a pic of my mounting system.

I also like to keep my amps stacked directly below my guitars, keeps the equipment all on one wall (or two if you need it) and leaves practice space and as you can see in the picture also some room for your pool table

Relative humidity control????

It is the downstairs finished basement and have NEVER had a problem with humidity control or any problems with any of my guitars or amps because of it!

Nice job T! you may miss that basement if you ever make your move down south...I know I do :( Most of my equipment besides what I leave out has been stuffed in a closet. The spare room in my house is more of a play room/guest room. Kids pretty much took it over, and I'm not real comfortable leaving my equipment out with peanut butter and jelly fingers about the house!

Nope...won't miss it a bit...I have one rule with the wife on houses (we are in our third home) and that is an oversized three stall garage (for the Corvette) and a music room, everything else in the house can be of her design and likes. So far she has honored that and it seems to work for both of us!

AHHHH the beauty of the empty nest! nice garage, nice music room, all is well! My music room will be in limbo for some time, right now it has video games, and probably 5 or 6 aisles of the Toys r US loaded in there!!! Not to mention the laundry hangar that was supposed to be the wifes tradmill! Suppose I may have to do an Arjay, and build an extension on the house!

Nope...not an empty nester yet! One in College (living at home) and one in High School and he is a drummer! But only 6 years away from empty nesting. We (my wife) has managed our investments well, along with our budget over the years. Plus we have been lucky enough to have the Air Force (before we retired here near St Louis) move us at just the right time with the housing market through the last 15 years or so and we made very good money on each house. We reinvested our profits and each time got a bigger house. Right now "My Music Room" is around 900 sq ft. and also has a nice pool table, big screen TV and some leather couches for lounging. I am truly blessed. And the saying..."Better to be lucky, than good" must have surely been written for me!

We moved back to Texas last month, and moved back into our old house (we had been leasing it to a friend in our absence)...

Since the Armadillo 'Tween is now in need of more room, (due to adult furniture, etc.), I graciously allowed her to move into the larger of the the two "non-master" bedrooms. This necessitates me to populate her old nursery, which is painted Baby Duck Yellow and has a mural of bunnies, squirrels and birds painted by an artist friend of ours on one wall. Obviously not "man-cave" decor or material as it stands right now!

After we had set her room up (with a Audrey Hepburn-in-Paris theme), she had the gall to come into the unfinished Lair of the Armadillo and say, "Nice guitar room, Princess!"

I oughta move her into the smaller room. I don't know where she gets that sarcasm.

Back to your question at hand--

I agree with the other people who have suggested hanging the guitars on the walls--since doing so, I have had fewer dings and nicks occur, as well as fewer "Hey, I know one power chord, let me play yer guit-fiddle!!" episodes.

It's almost as if people respect art that is on the wall moreso than art that is on a stand.

If you don't have room to hang up most/all/any of your axes, keeping them upright in their cases is a pain in the neck, but better protection than stands, anyway..

Yeah because if the "Guitar Room Princess" can't be inspired by a room painted Baby Duck Yellow with a mural of bunnies, squirrels, and birds...then inspiration will never come

Sorry about that SA, but if you don't appreciate the sarcasm...well then no one will

As for the topic, yeah I think the best thing I ever did was mount them on the wall like art...and out of the reach of the kids when they were younger...best of both worlds.

I only got rid of the pink walls and garden animals wallpaper from my room a few years ago, so I can sympathize. Lol

I like the wall hanger idea. I have a couple of them up in my room, and I've found myself practicing even more when I have a guitar out and ready! In the music room I'm planning to have an amp wall, so it would make a lot of sense to hang some guitars over them. I also have a corner of the room set aside for making YouTube videos! My room would never work because of how small and messy it always is. That, and my pet lizard would be in the picture. As if a girl playing blues guitar wasn't weird enough, how about a girl playing blues guitar with a pet blue tongued skink?

Anyway, the painting stage is done now so all that's left is for me to move in! I have to work all day tomorrow, so it looks like Wednesday is going to be the big moving day!

Well, it's finished! The painting is done, the guitars have moved in to their new home in the closet of the room (which is really a guest bedroom), the keyboard is finally set up somewhere other than on my bed, and I have access to all of my amps in one place! :D I've already done a lot of practicing and string changing in there. The next step will be to add some wall panels for better acoustics and to get some wall hangers to get the guitars out of the bags and off the floor stands.

Here's a pic! You'll probably see many more over the years here since it's probably where I'll end up taking most of my gear pictures. :)

Since I have an out of control G.A.S. affliction,I outgrew my 10 X 10 music room long ago and decided to switch around my basement rooms so what was one the music room will become the TV/library room and the current 12 X 20 rec (or more appropriately Wreck) room, will become the music room. With the atrocious condition of my back and hands, getting around to accomplishing the switch will take a Herculean effort, partly because there are a lot of my mother's personal effects that we divided up after her passing away, and we have to try and figure out what to do with them. She had a lot of very rare 1st edition books etc. that are quite valuable plus a lot of other valuable objects that I could never bring myself to sell because of the sentimental value and figuring out what to do with it all and where to put it .

I also have to organize the hundreds of volumes of music and guitar books and magazines, automotive magazines such as Car & Driver,Road & Track,Motor Trend,Collector Cars etc. that go back in some cases to the late 60s.Then there's my National Geographic mags going back to 1992 and over 100 National Geographic books and atlases. All of these countless volumes of books etc. has already filled 7 large bookcases plus there are 2 big steamer trunks filled with books that I haven't even opened yet.Every time I look at the pile of stuff that has to be reorganized I feel that it's an impossible task.I went into the old music room yesterday and stacked up my 3 Yamaha keyboards on stands-so that's a start.
