Nothing sounds quite like a Marshall set up properly with a set of Winged =C= EL34's. It's the kind of sound that grabs you by the guts and shakes you til you need a change of underwear.

It may not be fancy, kid, but it sure sounds good on the recordings I've heard... :!:

Wandering off topic here but I think it's good to learn on cheap nasty gear. Players who start off learning to make a nice sound on a cheap acoustic with a bent neck and an action like a cheese grater sound so much better when they get their hands on decent gear. I can always spot a player who hasn't been through the crap gear stage of evolution.

You can see one of my early "crap" guitars and amps in my sig photo. My first amp when I started playing again in 2010 is the Frontman 25R. Not exactly crap, by not on a par withmy 5F6A/C Bluesman and my Wrecking Ball. :D

It's not Fender and not exotic, but my Vox AD60VTX with the VC12 pedal outplays all the amps in 8 rooms of rehearsal studios where we practice. So I lug it back and forth. Any night that I hesitate because I don't want to carry it, I remember how much better it sounds, and down the stairs she goes.

You've got some great taste, Arnold! I am particularly envious of your Super Reverb 8) Nothing like a properly-built 410!

Thanks! Yeah Shes come a long way since I picked her up, still needs some attention, but a fine Super Reverb just drips tone! Was pretty funky when it first came home, but is on the road to recovery.

was just out on the web looking around, found a lot of amp porn here:
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... ?t=1124617
Many of which I've never heard of, but some very cool stuff. The one photo of the Hiwatt stacks is pretty impressive!

Yeah, I played enough baseball as a kid and in High School, I can watch a game with the volume off and figure out exactly what happens each and every play! And since I get mostly Cards games here...I turn off the volume, because I just can't stand Joe "Captain Obvious" Buck...so while the volume is off, I just pick a guitar and practice. I have even tried watching a game and playing along with whatever is on the screen! Yeah some days things are just that slow on my planet!

Yeah I'll 2nd your Joe Buck....YUUUUCK. Being from NY I'm a Yankee fan, and when that dummy, and Joe McCarver call a game on Fox, it's all I can do to not put a couple of rounds into my TV. Really makes playoffs tough to watch  He's not even a shadow of his old man.
Sorry for the hijack, but Tony got me stirred up
