so i'm watching it again for the umpteenth time, and still laughing even though i know all the lines. it seems i still find lines that i missed with a reference to something else.

for instance- "hedley lamarr" instead of "heddy lamarr"
the "mongo santamaria" reference to the music artist of the same name

those are more obvious- anybody found something else?

As a music link to this thread, Rush has a song on their "Presto" album titled "Anagram (for Mongo). This is a twist on Cleavon Little's line "candygram for Mongo" from Blazing Saddles.

I always liked the "Badges?, We don't need no stinkin Badges!" But I don't think that was a Cream reference

Actually it's a line from the classic movie "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" starring Bogey as a gold prospector. He and his partners meet up with Mexican bandits who claim to be the law and Bogart asks to see their badges. The rest is cinematic history.

+1 And Bogey bought their winning Lottery Ticket, which financed their prospecting expedition, from a native kid played by 7 y.o. Robert Blake... his 1st screen appearance !! (Electroglide in Blue, In Cold Blood, Barretta, etc.)

cheers!

Coincidently one of the Sirius comedy channels-96,Laugh USA- is having a special Mel Brooks comedy "festival" and I was listening to it last night. He was talking about the making of "Blazing Saddles" and how much help Richard Pryor's input was especially with the proliferation of the "N" word-there was a purpose in the over use of it and that was to make the people who use the word to look like ignorant hicks-mission accomplished.

I have the DVD of Blazing Saddles and no matter how many times that I watch it I laugh my arse off, especially the absolutely brilliant scene where Cleveland Little holds himself "hostage" by putting a gun to his own head and escapes from a crowd of angry townspeople. That scene has got to be one of the best in the history of movie comedy.

Classic !!

Many don't realize that Gene Wilder almost walked off the set because he came up with the scene "Putting on the Ritz" with Peter Boyle.

Mel Brooks vehemently stated that it would not be shot.

When Wilder called for his car and started getting out of costume, Brooks grudgingly relented and the scene was shot.

After the day's rushes were reviewed, Brooks apologized to Wilder saying it was one of the best scenes in the entire film !

cheers!

Hands down? Not sure on that!

Blazing Saddles? Maybe?
or Animal House?
or Caddy Shack?
of Blues Brothers?

Maybe we need a poll?
