Is it my imagination or is Guitarcenter biased towards Gibson, simply because they put the LP's, Melody Makers, etc. etc. as showcases in their store? Are we in a cycle where all of the musicians are using Fender and nobody's using Gibson? :|

If that is true, I can only assume it's because Gibson produces more expensive guitars and have a reputation as extremely high-quality instruments so there's an air of ritziness about them, while Fender has always struck me as a workhorse guitar. That's not to downplay the awesome quality of fender guitars, and I certainly like Fender as a company much more than gibson, but if I were going to select one or the other for a "showcase" it would probably be a really nice les paul before a really nice strat.

Just my opinion though.

Gibson place excessive demands on their stockists. Those demands include Gibson approved display, certain amount of area designated as Gibson only, minimum order of £30,000. Staff must be Gibson trained to sell Gibson guitars.

When you've sold your minimum order, all of that money goes to Gibson or rather replacing what you've already spent on stock, then going to your next order as they won't ever drop your minimum order amount. They also check up, sending mystery customers to make sure you're not selling em off cheap. Then on your next order you receive a couple of free guitars to sell as your profit. Ensuring you're forever in the Gibson trap of having to be a stockist to get the profit you've earned.

They're a nightmare to deal with.
