you need to apply a deprication schedule and than calulate resale value potiential against capital risk and that should answer your question

After pondering this some more I think it is like buying tools. If it is what you make your living with then whatever price you have to pay to have exactly what you need is worth it. But if you need for occasional use then you pay what you want to pay for it. Some people like to have the best and most expensive no matter what while others pay for just what they can get by with. It's a very subjective decision.
