Power Chord King, 'bought a new faded brown Gibson SG last month for $700 with case from SA in metro Chicago.

Dot inlays, no binding, no pup covers, no vibrato, no glossy finish, simple headstock decal, plays like a dream. Also tried out a faded cherry, same price.

Really? was it an actual gibson or was it an epiphone becuase I found an epiphone that was 700

Power Chord King, it says Gibson on the headstock which is Gibson-shaped, not Epi-shaped.

And is one fine, fine guitar for the money.

And sorry; it was Guitar Center, not SA. And for the GC horror story people: this buy was as always at the place, great service, great product.

I personally think there is no price too high for a guitar that you really love. I dream to own some of the expensive guitars that are out there now. I Love Collectable Guitars

I dont think that price is the only indicator of quality...usually a good guitar...it lasts...ages well...stays in tune...performs well...etc, is over 500$...at 1000$ range it is certainly as step up...my favorite guitar is this one...not sure what it costs...or if a japan model or mex would really sound or feel better/different.

No price isn't always an indicator of quality, but if you spend a grand or more on an axe and it won't stay in tune they better fix it. I expect any guitar in that price range and above to be a stable instrument.

No, I didn't think you meant that at all. I was just pointing out that past a certain price point I expect a certain level of performance. There's also a point a declining returns on price. Is a $5000 axe that much better then a $2000 axe? Not in my experience.

It's the 'Law of Diminishing Returns'. A $5000 guitar won't necessarily be 5 times better than a $1000 guitar, at least not in my experience.

Traded in a Tele American ($1275.00 Canadian) for a Tele Custom Classic ($2350.00 Can) now Fender lists them for $2600.00.

Traded in a Martin DH-28 for a Martin D-28 Marquis (3900.00 Canadian).
Coudn't afford the comparable Golden Era D-28 with Brazilian rosewood costing $10,200.

Always traded up because I coudn't afford to keep my previous instruments.

I bought these guitars because I wanted them. I'm Not sorry.

:D
