On September 27th EPE responded to a fan with a letter who probably thought it was written by Elvis saying that by sending in a dollar they could receive an autographed photo and become a member of the fan club. They also stated that Elvis had a pink Cadillac with a black top. The letter was postmarked that anyway. I'm wondering though if while in for repairs from the accident at the beginning of the month the roof was painted white. These went up for auction recently by Heritage. see http://scottymoore.net/fanclub.html

I digress a lot in the timeline with this post but I put up this article today which contains the schedule for acts at the opening of the Lamar-Airways Shopping center in September of 1954. see http://scottymoore.net/article540908.html

While we're digressing, here is the announcement in the Press Scimitar about Bob signing on as Elvis' manager
http://scottymoore.net/article541229.html

OK, back on the timeline. On October 3rd, 1955 the boys made their one and only appearance at the G. Rollie White Coliseum at Texas A&M University, in spite of the forged ad that has made the rounds over the years. This photo is of cadets and students checking out Elvis' pink and black Cadillac. see http://scottymoore.net/collegestation.html for the story and who can be seen in the photo. Sorry also to report that today (August 19) I was informed that demolition of the building is scheduled to commence today.

As of October, the band was put on a flat salary and stopped getting a share of the take. From College Station the tour took them to Paris, TX, Greenville and then San Marcos and Austin on the 6th. In Austin they played the Skyline. Coincidentally Johnny Horton was on this tour and this venue would be his last before tragic events five years later, as it was for Hank Williams a few years earlier. read on for other coincidences at http://scottymoore.net/skyline.html

With Friday off Elvis went with Tilman Franks to see and meet Bob Wills (and the Texas Playboys). Neither were said to be impressed with the other, then on Saturday the 8th they were back in Shreveport. This photo is at the Hayride around that time I believe. see http://scottymoore.net/shreveport.html
Image

That week starting the 9th saw them continuing in Texas again with shows in Cherry Springs, Brownwood and Abilene. On the 12th they were back in Midland and on this date at Pops Holifield's house they met Roy Orbison for the first time. I have a picture of them together but am not at liberty to share it unfortunately. see http://scottymoore.net/midland.html again
Image

Amarillo by (this) morning. Still on tour in West Texas with Johnny Cash, Wanda Jackson Porter Wagoner, Floyd Cramer, Jimmy Newamn and others, on the 13th they played the Amarillo Municipal auditorium. . This pic with fans was taken by the sister of one of he girls in it. see another at http://scottymoore.net/amarillo.html

On October 20th (during the day), while in the Cleveland area, they performed at the Brooklyn High School auditorium for deejay Bill Randle as part of a planned rock and roll film known as the "The Pied Piper of Cleveland" that also featured Bill Haley and the Comets and Pat Boone among others. see more at http://scottymoore.net/brooklynoh.html

After the shows in Brooklyn, OH, on the night of the 20th, they were across town in Cleveland for an appearance at St. Michael's Hall. Now for something a little different - On October 24th they played the Silver Moon Club in Newport, AR (see http://scottymoore.net/batesville.html#silvermoonclub) and then on the 25th they were at the Armory in Houston, MS. I don't have any more info about the Houston show but strangely enough the city is home to a building built from the original plans of Graceland, see http://scottymoore.net/graceland2nd.html
Image

Starting on October 26 they spent three days in Alabama, first in Mobile at the Greater Gulf States Fair http://scottymoore.net/mobile.html#GGSF the 27th at Vigor High School in Prichard http://scottymoore.net/mobile.html#VIGOR followed by the Armory in Chickasaw that night, then a return engagement to Curtis Gordon's Radio Ranch in Mobile on the 28th http://scottymoore.net/mobile.html#RADIORANCH
Image

On October 29th they were back at the Hayride, the same day that Sam Phillips and the Colonel reach an agreement that commencing on the 31st he'll have until the 15th of November to make a deposit on Elvis' contract to keep the deal on the table. Days earlier he asked Sam to name his price. On the 5th they were back at the Hayride and on November 6 they played the Biloxi Community house. see http://scottymoore.net/biloxi.html#BCM
Image

On November 7th and 8th they stayed in Biloxi for shows again at the Keesler Air force Base. Check out this pic with the Zollers and read the rest here http://scottymoore.net/biloxi.html#AFB
Image

After Biloxi Elvis went to Nashville with the Colonel and Bob Neal to the DJ convention where he heard Mae Boren Axon's demo of Heartbreak Hotel. On the 12th they played Carthage, TX and then the Hayride later that night (http://scottymoore.net/shreveport.html), and on the 13th they were back in Memphis for a show at Ellis (http://scottymoore.net/ellis.html). On the 14th they played Forest City, Arkansas an on the 15th they played in Sheffield, Alabama. It was also the last day the Colonel had to option to buy Elvis' contract. RCA gave in. On the 16th they made their last appearance in Camden, AR see http://scottymoore.net/camden.html
Image

For the record, this week they were touring with Hank Thompson, Charline Arthur and Carl Perkins. Yesterday, Sept. 3rd, was Hank's birthday.
Image

On the 17th they played their last dates in Texarkana. For this date on the tour however Carl was replaced by Johnny Cash see http://scottymoore.net/texarkana.html
Image

On the 18th they closed the tour with Hank Thompson and Charline Arthur in Longview with an appearance, their last, at the Reo Palm Isle. see http://scottymoore.net/longview.html
Image

On November 19, 1955, they were back at the Gladewater High School for another remote broadcast of the Hayride. After a year of performing in this area, for the most part, it would be their last appearance in this part of East Texas. see http://scottymoore.net/gladewaterHS.html
Image

On November 21, RCA bought Elvis' contract from Sam Phillips and Sun,
the terms here http://scottymoore.net/article551122.html
