:x I noticed the small "Original Contour Body" sticker on my Clapton Strat split and tweaked. I didn't remember it being like that when I got it a couple weeks ago. Then as I slipped on the Snark to tune, I realized, my Snark ate the sticker. The finish that is over the stickers on the Clapton is considerably thinner than the finish on my Am Dlx. I can barely feel the stickers when I run my fingers over them on the Am Dlx, but on the Clapton they're right there. So, live and learn. I'm going to have to keep and eye on the sticker eating Snark for now on. :?

I used to be a-scared of the exact same thing.
I'd go to clamp it on and wonder: "Is this thing going to eat that decal? I'm sure the designers took that into consideraation, right?"

Dag, hate that for ya, Drew.

Bummer, but "Sticker Eatin' Snark" would be a good band / song name : )

Hmm. Blaming the snark seems backwards to me. This one is on Fender. Another QC fail.

I wouldn't characterize it that way. Some people want instruments with thinner finishes including headstock varnish and for these people it is a desirable thing to have a thinner skin and they are willing to pay more to get it. If you want a thick skin, buy a poly finish. Also if you clamp the Snark on and de-clamp it off properly it should not eat the decals, at least not as rapidly as not fully de-clamping before moving it around or taking it off. Sliding it around without opening the clamping mechanism on a snark is asking for it to wear the varnish or decal. Open it carefully before moving it. Part of it might be how you are putting it on, where you are putting it or how you are taking it off. I like my snark SN2 because it will tune about anything, but I'm real careful putting it on and taking it off, especially on vintage instruments and I don't put it on decals.

If I am not mistaken the headstock decal on the EC is on top of the finish as per the specs of Blackie, so BrotherDave is correct and this is not the Fender QC folks issue.

The decal on the on the American Standard is under the finish, hence the difference in the durability of the two guitars. Not the snarks fault, gotten be easy on those decals.

You gotta always be on the lookout for snark attacks.

Yep, my whole post was kind of tongue and cheek. The title was influenced by Steve Martin's routine, "I'm so mad at my mother."
I know I screwed up. Luckily I realized before I did too much damage. I'm a guy who prefers less finish, more wood.

Been using a Snark for a long time, and never had a problem. Hearing this though, I will be extra careful when putting it on/taking it off.

Actually if you read the paperwork that comes with the Snark unit it warns about leaving it on the instrument for extended periods, and what it can and will do to the finish.

P.S. I hardly ever read enclosure paperwork, but sometimes it pays.

I never leave it on the headstock. But if it isn't reading well, I often move it around until it gives a good reading. That was my real mistake.

This Snark works great with the mic, or a cable.

Candygram, my foot! Get out of here before I call the proper authorities. You're the Snark, and you know it.
