Maybe.
Might be worth a try.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I'm sure that a lot of parents drop their tone-deaf Zak Wylde wannabees off at G.C. Long & McQuade etc. just to give their own ears a break.I was at L & M one Saturday afternoon and the guitar dept. manager passed me a 360/12 to try out. After I got it tuned up-no doubt after many pimple-squatting wankers had been bashing at it-I plugged it into a Vox AC-30 and started playing "quietly".

After I had been playing it for only about 2 or 3 minute, a young snot-nose came into the store and made a beeline for a Strat and promptly plugged it into a Marshall 100W stack and started playing the most dischordant shite that I'd ever heard and you could see by the look on his beak that he was more than a little pleased with his "playing".I hung the Rick back on the wall and walked out and haven't gone back there since.

I just go to the local Mom and Pop store-Reid Music-because you don't get away with taking a guitar off the wall unless you get permission from the manager. After doing business with them and buying thousands and thousands of dollars worth of gear from them,I still ask if I can try out a guitar or amp, even though I'm sure that they wouldn't mind,it's just common courtesy.Reid Music always set up their guitars perfectly before they go out on the wall and when you take one off the wall it's perfectly in tune and with great action.L & M and G.C. and other stores of that ilk let anyone have a free-for-all with their gear that's out on the floor and you'll often pick up a guitar with the neck gummed up with whatever sticky substance the aforementioned wankers may have on their hands.

I don't know why so many stores let just about anyone use or more correctly "abuse" the instruments that are on display as I'm sure that very few would ever have intentions of buying anything or even worse, wouldn't be able to pay for any damage they inflict on a guitar etc.Having so many people having a bash at even the most expensive guitars,no doubt plays a big part in reducing the worth of a guitar as I hardly ever seen one in such a place without at least some nicks or scratches.I am willing to bet that their profits would increase considerably if they adopted a hands off-you-break-it you-bought-it policy.

BTW: I just found out about 2 hours that my nephew has taken a sales/teaching job in Long and McQuade,I still doubt that I'll be going there any time soon even though I went to school with the manager/franchise owner, as my mom and pop store gives me better service and deals than any nation wide chain ever could and the money I spend on gear stays her rather than going into the pockets of some Toronto shareholder.
