yesterday around 2 pm i stopped in my local small music store to get some picks. i have been going off and on for over 50 years. place is nice and quiet. i ask the owner if i could try out a few amps, as i am looking for a small practice amp.

then it happens. i am about 5 minutes into playing, and a guy comes and sits down right next to me. not a kid-a cat probably in his 40's. he plugs in, turns up, and plays at top volume. i got up, unplugged, and handed the guitar to the owner. he asked what i thought of the amp. my reply was "a little difficult to tell when i can't hear it". i walked out without my picks.

is it me? i wouldn't do that to someone else. i just thought it would be polite to wait a minute.

Unfortunately common courtesy and common sense have ceased to exist. Hopefully the owner got the message.

I'd be willing to bet that rude ignoramus had no intentions of buying anything in the first place. What's that saying, "You can't fix stupid"?

Strange, my GC experiences are good ones. Never heard someone play obnoxiously loud, and only heard Smoke On The Water once.

And common courtesy still exists, maybe if people would show these people common courtesy, they wouldn't be like they are. Do your part, go out of your way to help someone. Be the change you want to see.

Weird thing is, I worked in a music store for a couple of years. Never once heard anyone playing too loud!

Well, except us when the doors were closed and we had after hours jam sessions.

It's when like a dog pees where another one has. Very base behavior. Guy should be neutered. Sounds like a lobotomy has already happened. John Wesley Harding had a good saying I won't quote here.

When I go to a music store to try gear I go on a weekday rather than a weekend and I won't go into the glass room unless it's empty. As soon as someone comes in I stop playing and hang the guitar up. I'm sorry but I just don't need the praise of the kiddies, "Sweet playing dude, show me how you did that," or the critique of the über-snobs, "you played the right chord, it's a Bbdim7, but they play it further down the neck like this." Just leave me alone and mind your own business.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Rudeness seems to be pandemic of late.

And the reason for this? The little knucklehead never had someone knock the turd sideways once, so he has no concept of truely right and wrong and the punishment that comes with being soooo wrong! Mommy probably needed to slap his hand just once to teach him that lesson...But was probably too busy letting the "Village" raise the idiot.

The GC in my area is ok till about ten steps in you smell a draft of menthol cigarrettes. I know it's the store because it's been there the last 3 times I've window shopped. All the burnouts go in the back and smoke menthol.

I don't care for the employees there, who don't have any skill at selling guitars and such. I'm used to the locally owned stores that actually know people at Fender, people that know what's best.

There's either some blues guy with a hat that cracks on you for playing Rush, or some Malmsteen wannabe.

that's why i thought early friday afternoon would be a good time. the owner, his wife, and me were the only ones there when i walked in. maybe i need to call in ahead of time for the all-clear

But I normally play stuff I came up with--and sometimes people have thought I was playing something wrong--but I was playing my own song--so it was right.
Or I was playing an intentional re-arrangement from the original...
