Thank you Fender, you have me spoiled rotten. Curse you Fender, no other Strat will ever compare. Let me explain. I have several Fender Strats from various years. However, I have only one Strat that is tone perfect to the point that it makes all my other guitars sound harsh in comparison. The pickup tone is so smooth on this one that nothing else sounds good to me.

I have tried different electronic components and pickups over the past years to find that one perfect smooth tone for just one of my guitars. From Ash bodies to Ebony Fret boards, from stock to custom pickups and everything in between and nothing. The tone was good but no real winners. I have spent a lot of time in guitar shops trying all the Strats I could get my hands on and it just was not there, ever. Yes, I even tried a custom made Strat, not it either.

Persistence counts! This past year I bought a NOS 2008 Strat on line from Elderly Instruments. There it was, that perfect spoil you rotten, tone. My other guitars now sound like nails on a chalkboard. Yes, I know all about pickup height etc. but it's just not as pleasing to my ears as this one Strat that I now have. I hope I don't spend another lifetime looking for that next perfect guitar.

Have you found that ONE Strat that ruined the rest?

No, I haven't.
I find almost all Strats (within reason, of course) to be reasonably useful even if they are quite different sounding. I like diversity in tone.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Well..you only need one guitar most of the time, right?

I played the ONE perfect bass about 15 years ago...and now own that instrument. I didn't search for a replacement...I knew that would never happen. Just waited.

Guitars are special.

My quest for the one guitar for me is over.

BMW-KTM: I realize each Strat sounds different, and am mighty glad of that. All are playable and sound good.

tbazzone: I had a 7up Green Clapton once. They are nice aren't they.

oxfan: Man, what happened?

Dalembic: Glad you kept after it.

I doubt very much that I'll ever find a Strat that would be so incredible that it would ruin the rest. One thing I love about Strats is that no two sound exactly alike, yet they all have an unmistakably Strat tone.I have 5 Strats and each one has its own unique voice yet the only ones that sound anything alike are my '65 and my Jimmie Vaughn and my 2000 MIM lefty Strat, they all have the bell-like "L" series chime in their tone yet each one is easily identifiable.I would like to have a dollar for every Strat that I've played over the past 45 years of playing-I'd certainly have a bundle of money.Of all the Strats that I've played there have been some really exceptional ones and the odd one that was a complete dog but there hasn't been one yet that would prompt me to abandon all the rest as except for the very few poor ones, the rest are just exceptional.

O.K., I'll try to get through this without getting too emotional.

I was a totalImage

Back in the day, I had a few really great instruments but, trading and selling was the way to go then. (insert heavy sigh here) and I eventually got disgusted with the band thing, and just let it all go.

I've never had one Strat that ruined things for me. I currently own 7 different Stratocasters (along with 63 other guitars) and no two strike me as sounding the same. The Strat I have owned the longest is one that I bought used in 1993 and it was my primary gigging guitar for years. I own Strats configured as S-S-S, H-S-S and H-H and I love them all. I've been playing since 1963 and never wasted much time looking for one special tone. There's beauty in diversity.

Yes there is, same dilemma too.
I have four, they all sound good, they all sound different.
But for playability and all-over sound quality:
my MIM Blacktop HSH is my go-to girl for almost everything.

I have looked, but everything else just seems sub-standard.

Tele's count also. Any guitar that was THAT guitar is what I'm talking about. Mine just had to be a Strat.

I got bit by the bug in the 60's you see.
Only a Strat could cure my disease.

1995 Stu Spector Design 5(Woodstock)
1995 Fender American Standard Precision
