Now, the briefing is postponed due to a code red or bomb scare at the Federal Courthouse - - but the briefing will happen tonight, we're being told.

Ball bearing aren't something one can buy at a local hardware store, so they'd have to come from a specialty source, if they weren't stolen, or acquired out of the country, or if they were even used.

The reports of shrapnel loaded bombs may be in error, as are a lot of the stories coming out, so far.

I don't understand how humans can be so barbaric against their own kind.

What are often called "ball bearings' in the reports could actually be what is commonly sold as "BB's" for air rifles at toy and hobby stores. They are very small round copper clad metal balls, not necessarily industrial stainless steel ball bearings.

Those reports are apparently premature. I believe a suspect possibly has been identified and they may or may not actually be in custody for questioning but no one has at this moment yet been charged. I'm further unsure how a suspect or suspects will be charged and by whom they will be prosecuted. If a foreign national, Guantanamo Bay or a black site elsewhere is likely their next destination. If US citizen the scenario will be entirely different.

I think there is somebody under arrest but that wasn't supposed to leak to the media.

Our Boston, NBC station has shown the "ingredients" which were mostly small nails (that you would hang a picture with) along with metal and glass.

They have crews combing 12 square blocks looking for any little pieces that they can find. Part of a pressure cooker was found on the roof over the viewing stands.

They are still saying a briefing will happen tonight, but the words used will be closely chosen.

Yeah can't say who the most likely suspect is! But the media has no problem trying to spin it towards being some crazy right winger trying to make a statement on tax day!

I think any speculation about who or why is premature until the facts are in. You hear all sorts of stuff. I heard a doctor say on CNN he removed roofing nails and bb's from patients. Now I hear picture hanging nails which are smaller and have no heads to speak of. Maybe the two bombs used different projectiles?

No bomber arrest announced yet. They do think they got the Ricin mailer in Mississippi though, so that's good.

I remember the anthrax mail scare all too well from back in 2001. It generated tons of anxiety and people were afraid to even open their power bill. It generated tons of calls to 911 as many people called in every piece of "suspicious" mail such as Publisher's Clearinghouse junk mail. Eventually the police here put buckets full of water outside the police stations and just told people to drop it in the bucket outside the station. That really went on for months.

We live in crazy times. There is just no reason for this. I pray for the families that lost loved ones and hope they can eventually recover some of their life. I'm so disgusted that's really all I can say.

The investigation remains very active and officials claim they are getting closer, but now are considering the audience that hears everything mentioned (worldwide news now)...and you must also consider the events going on in Boston this morning.

Your comments resurrect memories of the airport attack in Italy. There is nothing in the security protocols of any airport I have frequented which would prevent that kind of incident short of establishing a security perimeter beyond the terminal building, screening at that point, turning private vehicles around, and bringing passengers and baggage to the terminal via public transportation operated by the airport.

5-15 dead and over 160 injured. Tragic indeed, but worthy of a thread of its own. Would'nt you say?

Banning industrial ball bearings would be inconvenient. BB's are another story.

While any life lost by any sort of attack certainly is bad, what I don't get is a lot more people die every day from attacks in different countries, and that doesn't make worldwide news. I'm not trying to troll or anything, just bare in mind there is much worse stuff going on in the world and it remains uncovered by the press.
