Jennifer Batten worked with Jeff Beck in the past.

Who is this? WOW!

It's Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles, somehow she has been cheating time, still a babe after all these years, I believe this picture is from 2013:

OMG! I didn't recognize her! Time has been kind to her! Wow. I think every warm blooded guy in America (including me!) fell in love with her after seeing that video of "Walk Like an Egyptian" .

I didn't realize that she is still gigging. I thought I read, on the net admittedly so FWIW, that she had hung up the guitar and was a housewife somewhere. Good to know she's still playing.

Yep. Smokin' hot. I started out with a thing for Debbie Harry and Joan Jett. Susanna Hoffs was definitely on the list of chicks that rocked that I was into. Totally gorgeous.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

Thanks, guys (and TexasGS)! I never dreamed this would generate any interest beyond one or two responses. Leaving out the posts concerning female musicians (I didn't specify just guitarists-- vocalists, etc. would count, too), after conducting my own informal poll with a limited sample of four middle-aged, lifetime pop/rock female fans, every one of them gave an answer which was almost word-for-word what the very first responder said:
Vulpinity wrote:
Confidence, mostly, I think. If you have the confidence to stick yourself up on a stage and perform to a crowd of random people, you're already ahead of 95% of the male population.

A couple of observations:
--I have a feeling that more than a few of you were being very modest in describing your experiences with the opposite sex, seeing that this is a family forum, as Vulpinity cagily wrote .
--My man who couldn't get a girlfriend even though everyone knew he was a musician must be walking around staring at nothing but the ground; no offense, meant, bro, but not even a Goth/Twilight/brooding type? Seriously??
--Verrry interesting that virtually every one of the guys who admitted to digging chick musicians universally prefer attractive ones--in typical male fashion--in contrast to women, who have no trouble seeing Mick Jagger or Rod Stewart as desirable!
--Bass players, stop putting yourselves down! Sure, you're not as upfront or flamboyant as the other band members (even the drummers!), but every bassist I have known does all right 8) .

This forum has a ton of thoughtful, bright, funny, and honest members! I'm learning a lot from you guys, and not just about music.

My opinion of musicians is somewhat jaded. When I see someone playing guitar my usual thought is, "Oh, I can do that too. Big deal." So musician's magical charms may have a harder time working on girls who actually are musicians too.

If I can go on off on tangent, it is interesting that blues guitar seems to have become a "who has the better chops" competition. Music in general is about enjoyment. Enjoying life. A simple 4 chord song might be the most incredible thing anyone has ever heard. Last night I threw in a Muddy Waters CD and it was EXTREMELY powerful. Blues at its purest. I guess such is the essence of Rock and Roll... taking blues and trying to push it a step further. What I'm trying to say is it doesn't matter if one can rip the same licks as anyone else. This is no competition. If that's what anyones concern is, they've forgotten what music is really about.

I agree with you 100%, Toronado. Most of the music I listen to isn't at all about technical prowess, but more about expression and soul. I guess it's just that when guys who are musicians go out of their way to try to impress someone like me with their chops or stage presence, it's kind of annoying if you're a musician too.

A couple of years ago I was at a blues jam waiting for my turn to play when a rock band of kids about my age came in and signed up. They weren't even remotely blues players, but the people running the jam let them play anyway. Now, since this was a blues bar and it was a school night, I was the only other teenager there besides this band. And when it came time for the guitarist to take a solo, what does he do but leap off the stage and slide across the floor to my table, making John Mayer faces and generally being over the top. Maybe if I wasn't a musician I'd be impressed, but I just remember thinking "oh, e minor pentatonic box 1, I can do that". Of course, he had no idea I was a guitar player too... Anyway, that's what I was thinking of when I made my last post.

LOL! So true. Having played many gigs as a guitarist and many gigs as a bassist, the difference in post-gig attention from the crowd (and particularly, crowd members of the female variety) is quite phenomenal.

Yep. While I do play guitar it's usually only for songwriting purposes. Either of our guitarists could be a complete trainwreck the entire set. They are still the center of attention outside of our singer. I can pull off a beautiful melody weaved into a progression in a bridge and I'm still nothing more then a glorified roadie and guitar tech. The guy who fixes their equipment bugs and lugs the heavy stuff. That's okay, though. My girl digs me and she plays guitar. 8)

Nice. And it takes only one girl to dig you and all is right with the world, no? (no sarcasm)

But back on subject, to texasguitarslinger and any other female forum members, do you feel as a female guitar player you have become more of a 'bro-magnet', or do guys seem to be more intimidated?

Probably a little bit of both. Most of my friends have been guys since I started playing guitar, but I think that's just because I've always been in an environment with a lot of musicians and there are just a lot more musicians who are guys out there than girls. I was actually the one who was intimidated at first. But after a while I got used to it, and I think I've actually had less problems being comfortable around guys than my friends did. Between music, guitar gear, and (NFL) football, it's not hard to find something to talk about.

Admittedly, I haven't read this entire thread. Having said that, premising the OP's postulation is true, the vast majority of humanity enjoys music in one form/genre or another. It is common knowledge that there's always songs that speak to the listener on a most personal level. Consequently, the musician is the personification of the aforementioned and this is why chicks would be enamored by musicians, especially if they have an alluring stage presence and/or a 'candy' to the eye factor; and then there's the whole living vicariously aspects. Of course, that door swings both ways as has been clearly proven by the above female stars' photos.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I never found there to much to that--many us wind up with girlfriends/wives that don't care we're musicians.
And some wind up with women who resent them being musicians.
(Fortunately I don't fall into that last category)

@ZZDoc

Chryssie was among the chicks who played at the Central Park gig in 1999.

The show was hosted by Sheryl Crow.

One of my favorite moments from that concert is this excellent rendition of White Room with EC performing a sizzling wah-wah outro solo.
