If we're talking about being emotionally moved ... like, to tears ... then I find that as the years go by I am less and less moved by the lyrical content of songs and more and more moved by great performances. I'm over 50 now. I've heard pretty much all there is to say in a song. Love, death, poverty, crime, divorce, pain, joy, angst, suicide, etc. I've heard it before and those types of subject matter can certainly be emotionally moving but true awe inspiring musicianship is on the decline, generally speaking, basically ever since the 80s and the invention of shred. I am far more moved emotionally when I am at a concert and I am experiencing the music in an intimate way than I am when I hear a song in the car or at home. People, women in particular, will often ask, "Don't you just want to cry when you hear this song?" I'll nod my head and say, "Yah, that was a really sad one," but I'm only saying that to be polite. Put me in the concert to hear that same song and I'll weep like like a toasted fork seal.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Agreed. When I got to see Martina McBride live, it was an overwhelming experience. That lady can pack more power and feeling into a lyric than anyone else I've heard- and live it's even more so! Her backing band was excellent, and the two just played off each other like a feedback loop. She had the entire audience of 7800+ in tears numerous times- then we cheered so loudly and so enthusiastically, we made HER cry!

But, yeah, for me it's not just the lyrics or the theme- it's the music, the beauty of it, that gets me, too. The combination of the two is devastating. That " Start Livin' Life Again" song I posted is a perfect example of that last. Same for "Seven Days".

Then you have Kenny Chesney's " Where I Grew Up" I swear he wrote that about me... And for the record, I failed the test in the third verse.
